Anyone had a body wave perm?

    Hi all,

I am comtemplating getting a body wave - I have fine, lifeless limp hair which usually gets scraped back into a ponytail - not particularly flattering. I'd love to get more volume in it.

    BUT

I've actually had a "body wave" before, tho I think it was really a perm - got it done at a small very cheap hairdresser where most the hairdressers were young girls. It was horrendous and I ended up looking like a frizzy poodle - right before our big trip to Europe - so loads of pics to remember that style by! Ugh.

I still have hope that it might work for me if I got somewhere that maybe specialises in them?? Anyone else have any experiences they'd like to share?

i have considered having one done but never gone through with it. have you googled some pics so you can explain excatly how you want it to the hairdresser?
i think my hairdresser said it is called a 'modern perm'?
i would love my hair to have big rolly waves like jessica simpson....but i don't think it's ever gonna happen..

Not lately but used to get a soft perm using larger rollers so gives soft waves. The poodle look was the thing years ago but solutions are alot better and you can get a perm without looking like a poodle.

Go into the salon and ask for advice before booking. Most senior staff should be able to advise you want will work and what won't on fine hair.

Tell them what you want and let them know if you come out looking like a poodle you will not pay.

Look forward to hearing how you go

There was a thread a while back on digital perms. I'll see if I can find it.

I didn't get a body wave perm, I got a spiral perm & I LOVED it! LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT!
Get them to really test your hair before you have it done though, you don't want to end up like last time!
I used to do a lot of swimming around the time when I got mine & I had to wash my hair for 3 months solid with a special 'stripping' shampoo to take the chlorine out my hair shaft. Each time they would test a little section of my hair & it would turn to jelly & disintegrate because of the reaction with the chlorine. Finally I got it done & I loved it! I think I was 19 at the time though, so agesssssssssss ago now!
    Good luck!
