Lightbulb Getting a real job, night shift?

Okay, we have a business of our own (mechanic shop), but finances are very tight. So, I need to get another job. It just means that I will lose my health care card (oh well I guess), and pay more for daycare too, as well as the obvious, not spending two days a week (plus the weekends) with my kids. Unfortunately, we just need to do it.

I used to do temp work, all admin. I'm not really interested in going back to that (yes, I know its about the money, so it's not important if I'm interested or not), as I feel quite alienated from the corporate world (always have); I don't dress from the same mould or fashion season (everything I wear is at least second hand, even though it still looks nice), and feel like everyone looks down on me. My typing and data entry speeds will be down a bit, and I know they will go back up, but it seems next to impossible to get that noticed and therefore transferred into higher pay rates.

The Man has suggested that I do venue security (like at the airport or something, not crowd control). I would just need to find the money to do the training, but if it were to lead to work, I'm sure we could find it somewhere. I wouldn't mind doing that. Hopefully early April I get my driver's license back from the Dr's, so that will make things a great deal easier. Anyone have any thoughts on doing security?

Secondly, thinking about doing night shift. I know this would screw up all ideas of sleep my brain might have, but I don't really know of any other way we could both work full time, and either one of us be able to take the kids to school and pick them up. Anyone worked night shift? Or your DP? How does it affect your family life, etc?

I'm really struggling with everything at the moment, so I am really hoping for some support on one or both of these ideas. But, if someone thinks otherwise, I would still appreciate the opinions, and any other suggestions too.

    Many thanks in advance.

Have you thought about doing medico-legal typing from home if you used to do admin? Might be something worth checking out. Also some of the legal firms do shifts- ie typing/admin from 6-10pm or something like that? I'd check out some agencies.

    Good luck.

Thanks Div, I had looked at the medical typing thing a few years ago. Thanks for reminding me! I'll look into it now! At least then I could be at home!

Have you thought of night fill at your local supermarket. My SIL did this while her children were young, not sure if she is still doing it and it fitted in with the hours she needed.
    Just putting out another option
