The ladies appear to put a rolled up face cloth beneath the breast.
Why?
What does it do?
When would you use this technique?
I've seen it in a couple of you tube videos and wondered if it's something I should learn more about.
The ladies appear to put a rolled up face cloth beneath the breast.
are you talking about holding the breast? it's to get proper attachment, and hence no sore cracked nipples
I used to roll a facewasher under my breasts b/c they were quite large when my milk come in (I am a DD usually) and found them to be less heavy and easier for my DD to attach.
i use my hand and i usually have to hold it i dunno its easier that way and it feels like she gets more milk
My breasts are quite large and the midwife suggested this and I did try it while in hospital but when I got home I had a "milk bar" breast feeding pillow and this helped alot as bubs was a lot closer to my breast and body...also used my hand for a bit to get the right attachment!!!
I have to hold my breasts to as they are large and if I don't then they fall onto the baby's nose and then I worry about smothering. I've tried different holds but it still feels better if I hold it and I don't worry as much.
I still now use my hand to support breast as they are rather large and if I dont they come out of mouth or pull on nipple and hurt.
You can buy little things that clip onto bra and support breast for you.
I used a rolled up face cloth and also then got one of those hammock things that clip onto your bra and hold up. I only had to do for first eight weeks or so and then did not seem to need so much as DD was bigger. Without in beginning when sat down feeding nipple was pointing down too much and DD had to be almost under them to feed and seemed like smothering her face too much.
So to confirm it's done so your nipple points straight ahead rather than down and to prevent any pressure you could cause by holding onto the breast?
It's more about getting your nipple in the right place for better attachment, which can be easier than holding the breast in place for a whole feed, rather than avoiding pressure from holding the breast. Well I think so anyways? I found it easier to hold my breast, and I had a little pillow and one of those booby booster clip on things. My hand was much easier to locate in the middle of the night and I never had a problem from pressure of holding. HTH
A lady that had her daughter the same time as me had to put a pillow under her boob and baby to line them up. She was about a H-I cup or something though. SHe was saying the sheer weight of the boob out of her bra was painful let alone trying to line her daughter up on the end until she found the pillow trick. For the first couple of days she said it was a reall juggling act to try and see what her nipple was doing when attaching bubs and ended up using a mirror to line her up.
