Join us for Bake and Share - Slices!

Apologies for how slack I've been in posting this.

Our next Bake and Share Day will be next Thursday 30 March 2011. And this time it's slice time!

How does it work? Bake a slice and share it with someone outside of your household. e.g. give it to DH to take to work, shove a piece in the hand of your postie as they drive past, take it to your next door neighbours, send some to school for your child's principal.

I was thinking a zucchini slice, but now I want something sweet. Waiting for that Mars Bar slice recipe...

I use coco pops when I make mars bar slice... I think it makes them a little more chocolate-y

I'm gonna make 2 slices - vanilla slice for my family and a 'I dunno?' slice to give away! lol

I have to think about what I will make. Probably something lemon. Maybe Lemon Meringue Slice.

I actually made a passionfruit slice a few weeks ago. I wonder if it is a similar one to yours Mumma? The one I made had a topping made from passionfruit & condensed milk and it was baked in the oven until it is almost cheesecake like. DH & the kids loved it.

I'll give this a go but will have to do it on Friday. I am in the hunt for a low fat slice though - anyone know of any good ones?

RhiChiChi; you could always make a cake recipe and pour it into a slice tin, then ice. Yes its a cake, but when I bake 'cakes' like that, the Man calls them slices. It's almost a slice! Most real slice recipes seem to be quite high fat with the butter and crumb base. I am sure I came across a low-fat one recently, but I apologise, I just cannot remember it.

I don't know if I am able to partake this time. Am in the midst of packing to move house! I don't even know if I will get the opportunity to bake a red velvet cake/cupcakes with french cream icing for my head chef! (Can you believe, he has never heard of this cooked icing?!? He sounded very impressed and interested when I explained it to him at work on Saturday, even asked me for the recipe!). Sorry, hijacking!

RhiChiChi - I'd love a low fat, low sugar recipe too!

I think I'll go savoury and do a zucchini slice though cos I just made berry muffins (recipe is on the weet-bix website, awesome and pretty healthy too!). Still trying to work out who to share with though...

Netix - Thanks for your suggestion! I'll consider doing this if I can't find one. Good point about the sugar/fat content to make a 'slice'

JLeigh29 - I will scan the internet and see if I can find something & if I do I will post here for you. I dislike making a recipe to share prior to trying it myself. I have done so in the past & it didn't work out very well

    Sorry for my late reply.

*Lisa I think that the recipe I have must be the same as yours. But here goes!

    Passionfruit Slice

    Melted butter, to grease
    (1 cup) self-raising flour
    (1 cup) desiccated coconut
    (1/2 cup) caster sugar
    100g butter, melted
    1 x 395g can sweetened condensed milk
125ml (1/2 cup) fresh lemon juice
2 tbs passionfruit pulp (but I have brought those little cans of Passionfruit Pulp before and they are just as great. But I usually put in about double the amount to what is suggested).

Preheat oven to 180°C. Brush a 16 x 26cm (base measurement) slab pan with melted butter to lightly grease. Line the base and 2 long sides with non-stick baking paper, allowing the sides to overhang.

Use a wooden spoon to combine the flour, coconut, sugar and butter in a large bowl. Use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl. Transfer to the prepared pan. Use a metal spoon to press firmly over the base. Bake for 12 minutes or until light golden. Set aside to cool.

Reduce oven temperature to 150°C.Use a balloon whisk to whisk together the condensed milk, lemon juice and passionfruit pulp in a large bowl until smooth and well combined. Pour into the pan and spread evenly over the base. Bake in oven for 15 minutes until just firm to the touch. Set aside to cool completely. Cut into slices to serve.

It does end up having a very cheesecakey taste, but it is yummy. Good luck I hope you enjoy.

    So...

    How did everyone go?

I made the mars-bar slice and O M G It is totally to die for!!! (not literally, lol)

I only made it today though and gave it to DF to share with his work mates. (They all had to go into work sat and sun, doing a 75+ hour week, so I felt bad for them)
DF is sooo funny though! He asked if he can just leave the slice at home and eat it all by himself! Duuuude!! It's called Bake and SHARE Day!! Not Bake and eat-all-by-yourself- day!! Haha, he is so cute. Nice try my friend. Nice try.
