I was sent for a scan at 32 weeks to check on bubs size as my gp had bubs measuring 4 weeks ahead (middies at the clinic 30 weeks had it at 2 weeks ahead). The scan showed bubs was on the 92nd percentile and 2 weeks ahead. Thus isn't a concern for me cause I know scans can be inaccurate and so can fundal height and I'm of the opinion your body generally doesn't make a baby it can't give birth to.
This issue is now this (freaking slightly). Fundal height is measuring to dates (36 weeks) but it was the same 2 weeks ago @ 34 weeks where I was measuring 36....shouldn't it have gotten bigger?? Doesn't it mean bubs hasn't grown in the last 2 weeks???? The middie was focused on it not being too big (cause of the scan saying he is in the 92nd percentile) not that there was no change! I didn't think about it at the time but now can't stop thinking!!!
Towards the end, the measurement gets less again because the baby begins to drop into the pelvis and so the height of the top of the uterus drops down. Maybe bub has begun to settle into the pelvis?
My boy was always Measuring about a week behind on fundal height and then dropped a little further behind at 38 weeks. He was born at 39+2 weeks and was a generous 9lbs 3oz!
Fundal height is stupid, it just causes unnecessary stress. My daughter was always about 6 weeks behind and was born 7lbs 9oz.
It all depends on babies position, your own height and body structure .... Everything will be fine with your baby. Im sure its just readying itself for its grand entrance!!!
I went through this as well and called my antental nurse in a panic after seeing the midwife at the hospital (doing shared care). Every doctor, midwife, nurse will come up with different measurements, depending on how they hold the measuring tape and where on your pelvis/belly they measure to/from. On the weeks that I was measured by my antenatal nurse at my GP clinic I always measured exact to dates, but when being measured at my hospital visits by midwives I always measured smaller. Also as baby moves head down and starts to drop down into your pelvis a bit more your measurements tend to get smaller or stay the same as the weeks pass.
At 39 weeks I was measuring 38, and yesterday at 40 weeks (with a different midwife) I was measuring 36. They weren't concerned at all.
They like it to keep increasing, but a lot of things can affect it such as baby's position and the person doing the measuring - is it the same person every time ( sorry I didn't see if you said Ob or me )
I was measuring 5 weeks ahead at one stage and then by the end measured spot on I was told the same thing Kate said, as the baby moves and engages or even gets ready for the birthing position, the fundal height can change quite drastically.
Truly though, if you are worried - please ask them and be reassured by your medical professional.
Yeah, I think it's fine. DD measured 2-3 weeks behind most of the pregnancy (but sometimes spot on) - but I think it is influenced by where and how they are lying.
