    First period after baby, heavy!!

AF returned on thursday, and its been absolutely mental. 2 nights in a row i've had to get up and completely change myself and the bedsheets after about 5 hours in bed and thats with wearing a maternity pad. My period usually only last 5 days but i have a feeling this ones going to last longer

is it normal for your first AF to be so heavy after having a baby? i dont remember it being like this after the girls

Mine was and lasted for 10 days. I was told that it was normal for your first period after a baby to be this way.

Mine were totally mental. That being said you still need to keep an eye on your blood loss. I had to monitor my Blood levels til they settled down, heavy periods can lead to anaemia which is the last thing you need.
If you get dizzy get checked out, there is a drug to help ease the bleeding which you might need if it stays that heavy.
Hope it settles soon. Hugs xxx

hmmmm...i can't really say because after DS and DD i bled for 12 weeks and then went on the pill to control it, so technically didn't get my natural AF back.....but i only bled for 3 weeks after i had J so i guess should be due for AF soon, so i'll let you know....have you gone back to your GP though? maybe ask them when you go back, cause it does sound like alot of blood.....hope things start getting easier though,

Hun, it could be because you haven't been BFing to help your uterus contract back down as you normally would after a baby (I'm so sorry I have to say that ) it is a bit of a worry that you are bleeding so heavily, and I'd be worried that your iron levels might be lower than they should be too. or it is possible that you have a little bit of retained placenta in there and that could be making you bleed heavier too. If at any point you think it is *too* heavy or you start to not feel well, I'd give the hospital a call

At around 6 weeks I had heavy bleeding again but it wasn't AF, I would keep your eye on it and maybe talk to a MW?
Like Trillian said, give the hospital a call just in case.

Hun, get it checked out - it sounds VERY heavy. After DD I went back to the hosp as my bleeding had all but stopped then suddenly started again and was heavier and also had cramping - It turned out it was a bit of retained placenta, I ended up passing it in clots, but they were talking of doing a D&C. I really hope it settles down for you soon hun xoxox

    Hey Skybie

Yeah, mine were very heavy after DD and seemed to get heavier as months went by. I was a 4 day light period before DD and until this month 10 days and ridiculously heavy (like you are describing) I mean wtf where does it all come from. Iron tablets acant hurt, Im anaemic (sp?) now from such heavy periods.

I hope it settles down for you soon, precious xxx

My bleeding started up again with DS and it turned out it was an infection. It wasn't this heavy though, adn I had some big clots too. I'd also get it checked out

Thanks girls, it seems to have slowed for the moment, but that could be because i was freezing my butt off outside for a few hours (dont ask) and ive had small clots today like i normally would when its slowing, but will see what tomorrow brings. Just seems weird to bleed more now than i did after Jack was born
