Well I don't really want them too right now, my brothers are all too young at the moment.
My parents were the first to have kids in their families too and so most of my cousins are much younger than me. Most of them didn't even start having kids until mum and dad had had all of us. And then they all seemed to have them at once. So all my cousins are close in age and got to play with each other all the time and I always wished there was some my age.
I am the oldest in my family too and neither of us have siblings anywhere near having kids right now so it's going to be the same for my kids.
I wish there were more kids in the family right now so we could see them on weekends or go on holidays together and the kids could be close. Or at least some family friends with kids! I don't have many friends with kids either. Most of my friends aren't even married yet so it will be a while.
*pout* that's all... just venting as I'm seeing more and more how much DD1 loves kids at the moment.
I so hear what you are saying. My sister will probably never have kids, and DH's sisters are a fair bit younger and I struggle to even imagine them with kids. I often dream of the big family get togethers with lots of kids running everywhere but I doubt it's going to happen. We have some good friends with kids but it's not quite the same...
I grew up with a lot of cousins around my age. I even had one only 6 weeks older and we spent a lot of time together...
Now, Sam is two. My sister's boy is 8 and on DH's side of the family the youngest is 9 and the eldest is somewhere over 18.
It makes me extremely sad that Sam will not know what it's like to grow up close to his cousins.
But I also know that he will make his own connections. Among people at church, we have four little boys all born within three months of each other, and we do manage to make sure those boys spend a lot of time together. I know it's not exactly like cousins, but it's all we can do.
For me, cousins are totally overrated. I grew up with 3 male cousins close to my age, and they are horrible. They seriously were the most awful kids to grow up with. We also had a girl cousin close in age to us, but she lived in Perth.
Our best friends were the kids of family friends, I consider them family much more than my actual cousins. Your kids will find friends, they don't necessarily have to be related
We have no family here is qld have some friends with kids but we are not very close and catch up regualry I send my son to care 2 days a week otherwise he will not mix with kids until he goes to school I do feel isolated at times and I do feel that both my boys will be loners when they grow up as we dont have the connections some people have that is why I am trying to get involved with as many groups as I can but have been slack in going to them. Our family is so distant on both sides which is sad I am not talking to a brother and a sister but what can you do so I know how you are feeling
I am an only child and DP has a sister who is much older than him. As a consequence my girls have one cousin who is 28 and a waste of space and that's all they will ever have
I grew up with lots of cousins and still see most of them. A few live near us and have kids in the same age group as mine so the boys know them as their cousins, and my cousins as aunts and uncles.
I doubt BiL will ever have kids, and no idea about my brother and his wife, so the boys are unlikely to have actual cousins any time soon.
Heaven I know how you feel. My best friends growing up were actually my 2nd cousins. I was older than them but not by much, and they lived 6hrs away as well. So every holidays we'd either go to the farm or they'd come to town and stay with us. They even came down once when it wasn't school hols and spent a few days attending a "city school" as opposed to their rural school.
My mum had a falling out with their dad and that was basically the end of that. I have been back to the farm 3 times since then, with the last 2 times just as a passing through type thing. I haven't seen my cousins since I was 16, and we all have kids of our own now as well. I was friends with one of the boy's wives on Facebook, but she dumped me after a couple of months.
My mum's actual brother married into a religion, so they have never had anything to do us kids. Their choice. So I have 5 girl cousins that I don't know anything about. I see them once in a blue moon, one is about to get married but we are not invited.
As for my nephews. My kids actual cousins. I have one in Sydney whom I have never met (my brothers choice), and the other 2 live 10 mins from me but I seem to only see them on Christmas Day for a fleeting 30 mins. One of them turned 16 just two days ago and the other is nearly 14 so there is a fair age gap between them and my kids anyway.
I'm so sad that our kids will never have any cousins, or aunts and uncles for that matter. DH and myself are both only children. That's one of the reasons why i want so many kids, so they can have other kids to play with.
Mine have two cousins of almost exactly the same age, and the other half's sisters are the same age as my eldest daughter. BUT we don't see the cousins much, probably never will just due to family dynamics, long story there and one we really do need to deal with one day.
There's heaps of kids around here though that the little ones see regularly, there's even a boy/girl pair around the same age as our boy/girl pair, which is cute. We live in a small town so you see the same people all the time and Miss 3 is in daycare half a day a week and busily making friends.
my cousins were overrated..
and all my sil/bro & sis/bil used to do is pay out on eachothers kids behind their backs & now my bros kids say nasty things around my sisters kids.. i dont want them to do it about my kids!
I had cousins plenty of them my age, but only 1 that im close too, she is 5 yrs older than me, but my kids are one or two yrs younger than her three.
Other than that im the eldest from my mum, my brother who is 21 is gay, so i dont think he will have any too soon llol, if any at all, and my sister is only 11, My dad side, i was the eldest till 2-3 months ago when i found out i had an elder sister 1 yr older than me, and she has 2 kids but i probably never see them or her, and one sister i havent seen in 17 yrs and i assume she has a child but i have no idea if its true, and the oes i do see are 14, 12,, and 10. So i get you in a way..
I have friends with children but thye are all alot younger than mine, so only ds3 gets along with any of them.. if you were closer to me, id be your frind with kids lol
I know what you mean hun. I have 5 cousins, I grew up with 3 of them (also close in age, 2 boys one girl) and the other two on my dad's side I didn't have much to do with. Anyhoo, all my cousins are overseas, so very little family here. I've got only one brother who's just had a bub and my SIL says that's it. So my DS has one cousin on my side who was born on my DS's birthday this year (so they are exactly one year apart), and on my DF's side my DS has heaps of much much older cousins..... that's why I'd love at least one more child so DS has a couple of buddies
