    Highchair recommendations?

    Hey

Whilst on my baby shopping adventures with DH I came across the Steelcraft messina highchair. Read some reviews on it, and wasnt impressed with what people had to say tbh. Seems there are alot of nooks and crannies food can get stuck, the tray is too far from bubz, so the food falls on them and the basket below blah blah blah - so I was wondering:

What highchair can you recommend that is easy to clean, straps are not too far apart and the tray is easy to remove?

I havent had a chance to go and actually play with any highchairs yet, but next time we are out and about I will definately make the effort to!

I have the messina and I have to admit comfort level is good, tray not too high/low, foot rest is great, multi level option is great too, but yes, food does fall in the nooks and crannies as it's so padded. Still, I'm pretty happy with it

I don't think you can get better than the standard IKEA one - is all plastic very easy to clean (no fabric, or nooks and crannies), I never remove the tray but it comes off relatively easily, is good for when babies are little in my opinion but lasts so has worked well from 5 months to 22 for us. You can get a cushion that goes with it for when they are very little. The legs come off so is easy to store. So many cafes/restaurants use it, which means bubs is familiar with it when you take bub out and about. I haven't used a different type at home, but of all the different types have used when eating out it is definitely my favorite, others seem to be quite big even though DD is a good size and don't sit bub upright enough for my liking.

I had a peg perego and hated it with a passion. Food got stuck in the cushion and it was so hard to clean. I bought a zuzu brand high chair from big w. It is very similar to the ikea one - plastic molded and super easy to clean. I just give it a quick spray and a wipe over - too easy! Target also has a chair similar. And the best thing is - they are only around $50!!

LOVE my Ikea High Chair! My Belly Buddies talked me into it and I have never regretted it! Super easy to clean and transport, DS loves his, for less than $50 including the tray and they still sell for about $40 second hand on Ebay so decent resale value as well - Nothing to lose!

I have a Chicco Polly in Ruby and love it! It's funky, very functional, super comfy, easy to use and safe. DD is quite the climber and managed to get out if the straps in the Ikea chair in no time - I found her standing up in my friends Ikea chair not long after we'd bought our Chicco so I was VERY happy with our purchase then!!

Sure, food does get caught in the seams a little but nothing a wipe down won't fix and I give mine a vacuum every time the vacuum comes out (a lot with a child ) and that well and truly does the job.

The straps on mine (5 point safety harness) are light grey so yes, a bit grotty now but it's fine and I can remove them to throw them in the wash. Black straps would definitely be better though.

I love the double padded seat which grows with your child - the insert can be removed when the get to big for the first layer. The recline is great for all ages (can use it from a young age to simply wheel a LO round the house with you and keep them at your level). I love having wheels - so easy to move it around. It's height adjustable with the push of a button. It folds for easy storage but honestly, you don't store a highchair often once solids start The tray comes totally off and the arm rests fold (if required) so it can fit at/under most dinning tables as a 'normal' chair

I can see why others love the Ikea chair but I wouldn't trade our Polly, it's brilliant.

Can't beat the Ikea chair! Other than that I would recommend a VERY simple plastic booster seat (literally look at whether it can go in the shower or under the hose to be washed! no nooks and crannies and extra plastic bits) that sits on a chair at your dining table - easy to clean, I would recommend putting a towel or something under it if the chair is fabric (I should have taken my own advice ) but that it what we use now for Mr 2.5 as he is still too little to sit on a dining chair, the Ikea chair wont fit under the dining table and this way we are all sitting together.

I have the Ikea one and love it as well,

but I also have a Fisher Price portable highchair. Has all the features of a regular chair but no legs (it straps very securely onto a dining chair if you want to). The chair pad is really easy to clean or remove if you want to wash it. I got it orignially because we had no space, but then we got a huge house and I would never have changed. I have a real climber and he was out of the straps of the Ikea chair quick smart, so the FP one suited us better for a while. It also converts to a booster seat so it has been in pretty much constant use since DD was 6 months old (she's 5 next month).

Another vote for the ikea chair here. So easy to wash in the shower as it really does get filthy.

Wow thanks for the replies ladies!

DH doesnt like the Ikea chair. So we are off to the baby stores tomorrow to look at highchairs (and to buy!)! LOL

Will definately have to have a massive play with them all! Its been so long since I had to look at this stuff, im not up to date with the latest gadets for babies! (DD is 9yo!) And I cant for the life of me remember what hers was.

I do love the look of the Chicco Polly H/C - DH does too. So we may come home with one The reviews are pretty good too

Well I asked the same question... few years ago. Everyone raved about the ikea one. And I, in my infinite wisdom thought.. .nah... they're just saying that. It doesn't look THAT good. It's pretty basic. What if he climbs out? Dammit, I need some bells & whistles!

So, I bought a Chicco Polly cos it was lovely & padded (but all plastic, very cleanable right? ), and it reclined (which I wanted for my little bub at the time). And you know what? Once he started solids, I got sooo sick of wiping out the folds & cracks. Sure it's plastic & it wipes off, but it is a total PITA. IMagine you've tipped an entire tub of yoghurt into the guts of the chair, now imagine how long that takes to get in & clean. And when you're doing it 2-3 times a day... you soon hate it. And honestly, DH won't be the one doing it, you will. So once I realised how totally annoying it was, I went and got the ikea one (or Target now have something very similar for basically same price). It's awesome. It is so much easier to clean. 2 seconds, quick wipe, tray can go in the sink (if it's that bad).

So your choice, good luck. I really hope you don't make the same mistake I made!

    Hi,

I had a padded bells and whistles high chair and then got sooooo sick of the constant cleaning that I bought the Ikea one and my life changed, from spending 10 minutes every meal time to 1 minute. I love it. Good luck with your high chair shopping .
