I'm due to have the 12 wk / NT scan tomorrow. My doctor told me to get bloods done the day before. So that's what I did today but the person there sent me away saying I'm too early and to come back between 15-18 wks.
So I'm a little confused!! On the referral it said 'downs syndrome screening', should it say something else?!!
The person who was supposed to be taking your bloods sounds like a twit! It's normal to have your bloods around then as they use the combined results of your scan and bloods to evaluate the level of risk for DS, etc. I'd be going to a different pathology centre
i'm thinking shes got confused - here we have the bloods a week before the scan - just so the results get there in time - all i can think is she was thinking cvs/amnio (although i didnt know you had bloods for that.
my referrals all say nuchal screen though
The path dude doesn't know what he is doing. 1st tri screening combines bloods & the NT scan. Blood can be taken between 9 weeks and 12 weeks 6 days (best taken at 10 weeks) and the NT scan done between 11 weeks 3 days and 13 weeks and 6 days. If you get the bloods done before the scan, then you are able to get your results soon after your scan because the bloods have already been processed.
2nd tri screening is blood test only. You can have either 1st or 2nd tri screening but not both.
They are correct about the down syndrome bloods they can only be performed during certain weeks otherwise they dont show up. I had all my downs syndrome bloods done with my 12 week scan . but if i remember right the downs testing can be from 12 weeks onwards so i think they dont know what their on about go somewhere else did u know all pathology places accept each others referrals so u can take that one anywhere.

Yep my doc said i can do the blood test from 10 weeks but the scan has to be done between 11w 5d - 13w 5d. You just reminded me that i will go and get bloods done tomorrow i got my scan the 27th April so it should come back pretty quick that way.
