Hi Everyone
I have a few questions regarding mastitis. Yesterday afternoon, I started to feel a bit tender in my left breast up trowards my arm pit, it wasn't hot, red and I felt fine but it was sore when my arm touched it etc. I pumped some off for comfort even though i didn't feel engorged and there are no lumpy bits there, it was still sore after that and still sore after DD fed from it.
It was sore all night and i couldn't lie on that side it still felt sore after DD fed from it this morning. I had a MCH appt and she saif to keep an eye on it and if i felt sick to head to doctor.
I usually only feed one side at a time as i have a lot of milk and DD rarely looks for the
2nd side but this has never been an issue. When we got home from MCH she was due to have that side she had a great feed but my breast still doesn't feel soft like it usually does after a feed, i expressed a bit off after the feed to make it drain properly and it felt a bit softer but it still tender to touch.
I now feel a bit achy around my neck and shoulder and have a slight headache, do you think this is mastitis? Even though i don't have redness, heat or lumps in that area?
Thanks in advance
It definitely sounds like you could be developing mastitis. it can start off quite slowly like that. can you get to a dr thsi arvo? if not, i would definitely be ringing up to try to get an appointment for first thing tomorrow morning.
keep your breasts as empty as possible. Express if your breasts are uncomfortably full and your baby has finished feeding. If your breasts ffeel hot, put an icepack on them after feeds. You sound like you might be heading that way (mastitis), but hopefully you can still avert mastitis. If your symptoms do get worse, head to the dr. It's no biggie, just a couse of antibiotics, you will feel better in no time
Thank you all for your replies, i feel much better today, my breast that was sore is now much softer after feeds and not tender to touch, so fingers crossed it stays that way I ended up taking a couple of panadol as i was feeling achy and had a headache, i also put a heat pack on the sore side when i was feeding to help drain that side and it seemed to help.
I do have one more question though... CAn poor attachment lead to mastitis? If im ever going to get cracks or sore nipples its on that side, it's also the side that i have really strong let down on, could this make me more prone to it???
