We have had a spewy bug through the house and now little J (4weeks) has been vomiting since 2am this morning. She has a very low grade temp. She is currently sleeping peacefully on my lap. The vomiting doesn't seem to worry her much except it obviously tastes very bad. She has probably vomited about 20times mostly just a very large posit. So far she still has plenty of wet nappies.
Just wondering what others do in this situation? Do you go to the Dr just to check them out (and risk catching other nasties) or just wait it out? The other kids have only had the bug for 12-24hrs and only vomiting.
If she was still feeding, having wet nappies, and responsive (as much as a 4wk old is) Then I would ride it out, if the vomiting continued over 12 hours, I would take them to the Drs to get checked over for dehydration etc.
Yes she is still feeding. Only really using me as a dummy not actually trying to have a decent feed but I can hear her doing the odd swollow. When she tries to feed she pulls of like she has pain which she never does. She has been on the breast more then usual this morning but hasn't tried to actively feed since about 5am this morning (its just after 11pm now)
So far I've noticed no change in her nappies. Still wet and dirty.
I would think that the vomiting has caused a little irritation up her throat (because of the bile in the stomach), If your worried get her checked out hun, you know best xoxox
If nappies still ok I would wait a bit and see if vomiting stops BUT if you are all worried get her checked and also bare in mind later in day it gets harder it is to see a Dr unless you present to emerg.
I was under the impression that you should take a very young baby to the dr if they seem ill.
I agree about the wet nappies and feeding being ok, but to me four weeks is very young if they are vomitting because of a bug.
Mind you, I'm more inclined than not to take my kids to see a dr ... a few times I thought they were ok but they had ear/chest infections and needed anti-biotics, and similarly when they didn't seem well it was nothing more than a "post-nasal drip" that time would heal.
Use your instinct - if you "think" you should take her, then take her. Your peace of mind is just as important.
Hope J is better soon.
