Fri was a public holiday when NO shops were open for trade.
Tues a public holiday where places were open for trade and where if rostered on you are expected to turn up and work.
Hope that helps
So I work at woolies, not doing anything exciting but night fill.
I am rostered on 3 nights a week and one is a Friday and one is a Tuesday shift.
I didn't work the Friday shift as it was good Friday, I still got paid my usual hours.
Tuesday, another public holiday and I didn't go to work as I have never been asked to work a public holiday. I was rostered on to work and told I should have come in.
So my question is, are they aloud to get angry at me for not coming to work when I have never worked a P/H before and should I still get paid for it like all the other Public Holidays?
I am just so angry that they expected me to know I was working when they didn't tell me. Why is it ok to have the Friday off and get paid for it but not the Tuesday. Just because they wanted me to come in doesn't mean they should be able to get away with not paying me. Well so I think anyway!

All public holidays are not created equalespecially in retail!
Sounds like they could have made the roster a bit clearer though?

We rang the fair trade people about our pay obligations. The guy at fair trade said that Friday was a public holiday and tuesday was a national day off. I had no idea there was a difference but apparently there is.
Good Friday is a non trading day. The Tuesday was a public holiday. Woolworths was not open on Friday. It was on Tuesday.
I'm pretty sure you get paid for public holidays unless you're casual. DH works in retail and he was paid for all of the public holidays over Easter even though he didn't work them.
If you were expected to be at work they should have paid you public holiday rates. I'm not sure whether they should have paid you or not if you didn't turn up though.
I would say the responsibility of checking the roster comes do to you so I would say no pay unfortunately![]()
The thing is I did check the roster and I was rostered on the Good Friday and the Tue P/H SO I am confused.
Thank you all muchly though I will call the SDA to find out the details.
No you won't get paid. You weren't expected Friday because they weren't open. They were open the Tuesday.
You should have questioned the roster at the time, not after the event.
Hi, just an update. I have gotten paid for the Tuesday. They had to pay me as they did not ask me to work that Tuesday.
This has happened to a work friend of mine also another time and she was also paid.
Thanks everyone!!
So did the night fill staff go into work even though the store was not open for trade to the public on the Friday?
No they didn't as we filled the load on the Thursday night and a there wasn't a truck to bring a load in on the Friday.
