I seem to recall that you should avoid lavender oil when pregnant, but maybe to a Google just to check!
I've got a massage oil, that DH wanted to use last night when he was giving me a massage but I wasnt sure if the ingredients were OK to use while pregnant cause I am not very clued on with this sort of stuff.
The massage oil contains:
Safflower oil, sweet almond oil, lavender essential oil, ylang ylang, essential oil 1, vitamin E, aloe vera oil and antioxidant.
So does anyone know if the ingredients are OK or if I should avoid the oil?
Thanks!!![]()

My googling comes up that BITTER almond should be avoided cause its toxic but doesnt say anything about sweet almond.
And lavender and ylang ylang can be used. Not sure bout the rest of the stuff.
Cheers Lynsdan! I hope you can give me more info![]()
The brand of this massage oil is four seasons and I bought it at Coles. Not sure if that makes a difference?!!
Ok ngala babe... Got into my text books from my beauty course and it says
In pregnancy it is advisable not to use essential oils in the first five months. Care must be taken to use only the safest oils in the latter stages.
I have heard of therapists using essential massage oils though before the 5 month mark. Generally the rule is as long as it is in a carrier oil, you dont use too much, for too long or too frequently, it should be ok.
However in saying that there are a few no no oils in pregnancy.
These are-
Aniseed, basil, camphor, cedar wood, cinnamon leaf, clove, cypress, fennel, hyssop, juniper berry, marjoram, myrrh, nutmeg, origanum, parsley seed, peppermint, rosemary, savory, sage.
From 6 to 9 months the following oils may be used in weak dilution.
Cedar wood, cinnamon leaf, cypress, marjoram, nutmeg, origanum, parsley seed, rosemary, savory.
Also- if this helps- mandarin or tangerine essential oils used in a vaporizer can help to eliminate nausea.
And I'm just reading on, there's an essential oil named Melissa (apparently) that's supposed to be a remedy for morning sickness?!? Whoa!!! It's apparently a French traditional remedy!
I have this book handy still I can scan and email the pages if you like?!?hope it helped xox
