    What's going on?

Yesterday he didn't seem to be able to finish a fed as he'd fall asleep within 3 minutes on each side, nappy changes, reduced clothing etc didn't seem to wake him up enough. He wouldn't sleep unless I held him and the minute I put him down he's start crying and wake up, yet settle the minute I picked him up.

So my question is more related to his attachment... it seems so much stronger since his 3am feed, almost like he's clamping down on my nipple... OUCH!

He's only 6 weeks old... this isn't teething is it?

    Whats with the clamping down?

Is there anything else going on hun? 6 weeks is a common time for a wonder week - has he been feeding more frequently as well? It could be frustration with the letdown not being fast enough, or it could be something else. Is he still having lots of wet and dirty nappies?

It must be frustrating for you to have something else to deal with after all you've been through in the last 6 weeks

The clamping could be him experimenting with different sensations maybe?
The change in sleep/settling behaviour might be a wonder week - it's common at around this age.

his nappies are still wet, but the last one wasn't as wet as normal so I'm keeping an eye on that, I can feel my let down when he's feeding (I think it's my let down; pins and needles type feeling that quickly disappears) he fed more often yesterday afternoon / evening but I think that was more that his feeds were ALOT shorter cause he was falling asleep.

I hope the clamping doesn't appear at the next fed cause it's feeling rather bruised on one side

To reduce the clamping make sure he's very well supported - especially his head. He will have grown - maybe you need to adjust whatever you are using to support him to compensate. If he keeps falling asleep then you may have to try more drastic measures - we used cold water or cold facewashers, loud bad singing, and lots of tickles (but my DS did have a falling-asleep-while-feeding problem).

It's like a big jump in their development. It often leads to changes in behaviour and sleep/settling

As MadB says! They used to be called "growth spurts" but now the research has shown that it's more to do with brain development than physcial growth so the name has changed. Feeding more frequently and waking more often in the night are the most common signs that it's a wonder week, but any change in behaviour can be a sign.
