    Constant Cough

DD1 has had a constant cough of a night time for awhile now, and it is starting to worry me.

It basically started when she got sick with a cold, than she got bronchitis, and now she has this cough that will not go away.

It's particularly worse at night (i can hear her now) it dosen't seem to stress her out too much but it stresses me out.

It sounds really bad and sounds like she is going to vomit.

Anyone else's toddler had this? any recommendations? What could it be?

DD2 has an appointment tomorrow at the doctors for her immunisations so i am going to mention this too him.

    Oh no, poor lil thing.

I have a friend and her little girl has the same thing at the moment. She was coughing so hard i thought she was going to vomit all over us the other day aswell but she didn't. She has also had it for a few weeks now, and slowly but surely it is improving. Not sure what the Dr recommended but i can ask.

Westy if you can that would be great!

I really don't like it, it's horrible to see and hear! although it really dosen't seem to be upsetting her, just me! and with my last experience with DD2 and her trip to hospital im just really paranoid now about everything breathing related!

If this was a cough that had been hanging around for awhile and seems to occur a lot after she get's sick then I would take her to a GP.

In my case my DS would always have a lingering cough after getting a simple runny nose. We tried AB's which had no effect and then we tried asthma medication. DS now is on a tablet he takes daily which is the prevantitive and we had to use ventolin this time after he got a cold to get the cough under control. The only other symptons he had that indicated asthma (albiet a mild form) was that he would cough a lot in cold air and if running around a lot (as well as coughing a lot at night)

Anyway goodluck and hope the cough goes away quickly.

DD has just gotten over a cough that lasted 4 weeks. She's still a little wheezy and coughing randomly but she's definitely on the mend. We've had 3 trips to the GP (I was really sick with an awful cough too) and they tried treating her for croup, which didn't do much, and we were both tested for whooping cough, which was negative. Looks like it was just an awful virus in the end.

A chat with your GP would be a good idea though to get her lungs checked. DD's were clear each time despite sounding chesty. They did suggest trying ventolin but she was getting better by that point so I didn't bother.

A vapouriser in her room at night helped a bit and so did Baby Balsam on her chest, back and soles of her feet.

I hope your DD is better soon. I know how worrying it is There does seem to be some really awful bugs getting around this season.

I would take her to the GP. Croup has been going around and is much worse at night. You wouldn't even think they are sick during the day. One time when my son had croup it didn't have the really barking distinct sound to it either so I left it for over a week. It just hung around.
If it is something else then a vapouriser and chest rub should help a bit with her sleeping.

Hope you sort it out soon, listening to your little ones coughing is awful!

Sorry hun, but it sounds like Asthma. It's possible to have asthma and a persistent night time cough is the only symptom. It is sometimes triggered/preceeded by a cold.

A croup cough and a night asthma cough sound different. Your GP will know. I personally would recommend that after seeing a GP they refer you to a specialist if it is asthma, so that you can formulate an asthma plan.

There is medication (non-steriodal) for the asthma cough - but they need it for a long time.

Lenny - that is my gut feeling unfortunally! i resorted to Dr Google last night and everything i read makes it sound like Asthma!

The doctor was sick himself this morning so i am going to try and get her another appt ASAP!

i REALLY hope it isn't asthma! Hopefully it's the same as Taurean's DD!

But meanwhile i will be vaporising and chest rubbing her up like everyone has suggested! thank you for your replys
