I just came across an interesting post [http://www.fooducate.com/blog/2010/1...an-europeans/] [hope it's OK to post this - it's not a commercial link] - it explains that certain additives allowed in America are not allowed in Europe and companies re-make the same product for European sales. This made me wonder, what is allowed in Australia and what is the Australian government's rules on this - as explained in the article, additives ARE allowed in American food unless proven UNSAFE whereas in Europe additives are NOT allowed unless prove SAFE.
How does it work in Australia?
I recall reading that Aldi's has voluntarily removed all artificial colourings form its product range, but this was completely voluntary on their part.
I can't believe how much more aware I am of these things since having DS - or, to put it more accurately, how stupid I was about all of these things before. I've never been to Aldi (it wasn't convenient to where we used to live but there's one not that far from us now) - I'm definitely going to become an Aldi shopper.
Google additive alert. It is Australian and there should be a list of numbers to avoid on it. If you do a search on BB for it there is a great thread from a few years ago. The ethical shopping book has the numbers list too. You don't need to change where you shop just get used to reading the ingredients.
