    Couch for a cot????

DD is nearly one, and she is always wriggling around and banging her head of her cot and waking herself up!! I dont think she is ready for a bed yet though, she still cant climb off DS's bed, so i know there would be issues there if she was in a bed!! Plus i like knowing she is safe in her cot.. (well safe besides knocking herself out on the cot )

But this morning i had an idea, Im just not too sure how safe it would be... we have a couch in her room, i was laying with her there this morning, i got up to go to the loo and looked down to see DD roll over against the couch, and not wake herself up coz she didnt hurt herself!!! And i thought.. hmmm i wonder... the width is about the size of her cot, it has a high back, (so i could turn it around so the open but is against the wall) and i would put up our wiggles playpen thing at the end as a rail so she couldnt get out.. but she would have cushioning- but my worry is too much cushioning, and is it safe??? The back of the couch is solid, as in its not a removable cushion, so she wouldnt get stuck between cushions.. im just not 100% sure about it, but i am definately over her banging her head on the cot!!!!

Any ideas?? I might try and get a picture of it later fo rthe gallery so you can see the couch in question!

TBH whatever works works, as long as there is nothing she can get stuck under i don't see an issue with it.

ETA: personally i wouldn't but if it's 'safe' in your eyes and helps her sleep.
My only concern would be if she put her face up to the couch, is it 'breathable' IYKWIM?

Personally I wouldn't. The safety rules for cots are strict for a reason and a couch just doesn't meet those standards. I'd be more inclined to get an old school padded cot bumpers.

Or A mattress on the floor?

What about a bumper for the edge of the cot?

That is my concern- that she would get her face all squished into the side of the couch... I have one bumper in the cot, but honestly it does nothing, its catch 22, anything soft and squishy enough to pad it well, becomes like a couch and is a suffocation hazard.

I dont know what we will do, i just know i am sick of getting up ten times a night coz she has bumped her head lol!! I think she wriggles too much to put a matress on the floor, she would just roll off that and wake up coz she isnt on a bed lol!! Although we have spare double bed.. maybe the double bed matress on the floor.. lol she would have plenty of rolling room there!!! But then she would be free to wake up and crawl anywhere... and we have a heater on in the hallway that isnt "free baby proof" (it only goes on when she is alseep) Maybe i just have to build a giant structure around the matress.. lol the playpen for sides maybe to keep her in!! The couch could go against it so its the hard-ish back not the soft squishy bit!! hmmmm... It wont look pretty, but it might save our sleep!!!

I wouldn't use the couch in case she gets stuck between the cushions.

What about a porta cot for the nights when she's really restless?

I think a mattress on the floor might be the best option. If you put a big doona under it she won't get such a bump if she rolls off.

Have you tried an Airwrap? Breathable but also helps soften the bumps

DD went through a stage of bumping her head a lot but grew out of it. It could just be a stage, maybe?

we did a mattress on the floor & it worked well. while DS was still moving quite a lot but not too long, i'd put him so he was lying across the bed rather than the traditional way of being in bed (hope that makes sense!!). his is a king single so quite wide & it meant that as he moved round, he didn't really fall off because he mostly moved sideways. he's in the bed properly now & we had no trouble transitioning him to turning around to sleep in the more traditional way. it made him so easy to resettle at night during the real sep anxiety phase because we could lie next to him & never had to worry about putting him down again.

I wouldn't. What if she falls and gets stuck between the couch and playpen?

We rolled up a crocheted rug and put that around the edge of DS cot which did the trick.

I wouldn't too hun. DS bumps his head on the cot walls too, but I've put in that breathable mesh thingie, Airwrap (thanks Taurean!) and is softens the blows to his scone. It's not really thick or anything but it does cushion the blows to his wee head a bit. It also stops his wee legs going through. I would think a big mattress and a playpen around it would work

I wouldnt either. I would try one of those airwraps or what about moving her to a portacot? That might work. That way shes in a cot without suffocation hazards or being able to hit her head.
