Anyone with any experience![]()
I am looking at alternatives to DD's asthma and respiratory problems and came across the Salt rooms.
Has any one used them or know some one who has?
Do they help, particularly for chronic asthma?
I don't like that I have to pump her little body full of steroids all the time and would be very interested in alternative therapies.
Thanks![]()

Ive never heard of it. What do salt rooms do?
Treatments are stting n a room filled with special salt, the small particles are breathed in and it helps with respiratory ailments (asthma, bronchitis, CF, Hayfever etc) and skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis etc) and also with general wellness.
I can't imagine that inhaling salt would help with any health condition.
BUT natural salt - like sea salt and himalayan salt have been known to produce an ionising affect when heated/dissolved in water etc. Ionisation is when the air becames charged with a higher number of negative not positive particles, and helps the air to be fresh and clean - like it is when you're at the beach or standing next to a waterfall. This is the principle behind salt lamps which are fairly popular these days.
Holistically you could incorporate some of this into your LO's routine by using sea salt or himalayan salt baths (I used this a lot during my cancer treatment, it helps enormously with creating energetic balance), but I suspect in order to get a really good result, actually getting a room ioniser with a HEPA filter would improve the air quality inside the house most and provide the most benefit. Just my thoughts...
ETA thought I should add that ionisers actually cause dirty particles like dust, smoke, etc to fall out of the air, so expect to do more vaccuuming in the room you're using it in.
I have heard of these, and seen them on telly and people that use them rave about them, but I dont know of anyone that has actually tried it. Hopefully someone on here knows a bit more about it.
I have heard of them - and seen them on TV like Manhattan - I would be really interested to hear if someone has been in one! I think they sound great!
You can also get himalayan (sp?) salt lamps too
thank you for your ideas Marydean really appreciate it
From what I gather this is the same principle in the salt rooms. It is sea salt.
It may just be rubbish but reading a bit on the net I understand the theory behind it.the salt rooms the ionised and saturated with a natural substance - a low concentration of curative highly dispersed aerosol of dry saline (salt).
The microclimate in our Salt Rooms is formed naturally, through convective diffusion from the salt walls combined with controlled temperature and humidity. This creates a hypo-bacterial and allergen-free air environment.
You can also buy salt inhalers for asthma and bronchial problems.
