I had a horrible three hours last night as a mummy. Started at 1am with DD waking, actually that wasn't too bad as she just wanted a cuddle and a drink and back to sleep. But she's 2.5, she doesn't understand quiet. So she woke up DS i think. DS was awake anyway just after that.
And I just couldn't comfort him. He was so distressed... I tried patting and soothing in his cot, got him out for a feed in bed with me, he just bit me, twice. When I told him no he lost it and started thrashing around...
Cuddles didn't work, rocking didn't work. He's only got 4 teeth and had his hand stuffed in his mouth so that combined with the biting lead me to think maybe a tooth? So I gave him some panadol... But he didn't go to sleep for an hour and a half after that, til almost 4am.
And I just couldn't comfort him. Felt like a crappy crappy mummy - couldn't make my boy better
Big hugs. Sounds like you did everything you could and in no way had a fail. Sometimes there is nothing you can do and you just have to be there with your LO while they are like that. I hope you get a better night tonight.
OP that certainly doesn't constitute horrible mum in my books. sometimes, despite all our best efforts we can't make everything better. You did everything you could to comfort him, dont be too hard on yourself. the poor little guy, have you got a teething necklace? I can't recommend them highly enough, I used to be a sceptic but no longer!
Thanks guys... Logically I know it's not a fail but it's hard to be logical at 4am when your LO won't stop crying hey!
I've tried a teething necklace - I bought one of the ones with pointy stones as opposed to rounded ITMS? Anyway it didn't seem to do anything and the little point stones seemed to dig into his skin and leave little red marks...
Hugs OP. You're a great mummy and even though you couldn't stop your little one crying I bet he felt comforted knowing his mummy was there. We have a teething necklace it's great, even though dd isn't teething she seems more settled with it on. We got ours from a FB business called Mumma Rocks.
