help please, Just found a rosella/parrot type baby bird...

I just came back from the supermarket and as I drove into our driveway I noticed a lady standng over something bright in the road, when she saw me looking she jumped in her car and took off.

I started unloading the shoppnig then heard such a ruckus out the front, so Iwent t have a look, there were a few magpies standing around pecking the bright, colourful thing, which I realised was one of those native colourful parott type birds.
Its only little, I shooed the maggies away and picked it and now its in a box but I dont know what to do with it?
Please help me do the right thing by this little guy.

Ring WIRES they will help. Just look up the local number. Keep it in the box in a quiet place until you speak to them!

Try your local vet. I would have suggested hanging it back up in the tree in an ice cream container with holes in the bottom so that it's mother could help it, but with the magpies that doesn't sound like a good idea.

Otherwise, you could contact WIRES. But usually the vets will have those contacts on hand and help the bird in the meantime. Our poor vet has ended up with many a native animal that needed assistance from us.

Thanks guys, I tried to contact WIRES as I was looking at their website but they dont have any offices in SA that I could see, I ended up ringing the RSPCA Who put me through to the SA native wildlife rescue, who put me onto a local lady who is coming to pick it up

Aww poor little dude! Glad you got it sorted.

We had a tawny frog mouth fly into our back fence once morning after my dad dropped some metal sheeting and made a big noise. Poor thing was so disorientated! He spent most of the day in a beer carton before the QPWS ranger could come out to pick him up. He never fully recovered because he was pretty concussed, but now he enjoys a happy and luxurious existence in the local nature centre! They even kept the name we gave him, and apparently the staff are now all very fond of 'Fred'. That was...gosh 6 years ago now!
