I made my own hug a bub style wrap and after a few goes at tying it I loved it.
Who uses them and what do you think is the best brand? I have been looking at the moby wrap but there is also the sleepy wrap and hug a bub which looks the same. Any suggestions or recommendations? I don't like the baby bjorn style slings. TIA![]()

A beautiful friend made mine, and I love it, it has saved many a day around here! Definately the best carrier for a tiny baby! I haven't tried any other wrap style slings though. Sorry, not much help am I? But I don't see that there would be a terrible lot of difference, they would all do the same sort of thing?
I loved my Close Carrier until the weather got too warm here for it. It's essentially a hug a bub but it's sewn into shape so much easier to put on and off (I've tried the HAB) Jakoby fell asleep in it every time.
Hmm, well I would never be able to make one, I am hopeless with things like that. I've had a look on a couple of sites and I could get a wrap for about $50 which isn't too bad. I just hope I can use it and bub likes it. I have tried a bubba moe sling with a friends babe and didn't like that either. The ring slings I looked at too, but I get a really bad neck on my right side and I worry that a sling like that would hurt me. I'm thinking the wrap is the way to go, and if I don't use it I could probably easily re sell it.. I can't WAIT to start buying! Lol
BEST type of carrier for a little baby. My DD2 is asleep in the HAB now. They are all the same. It's just a long piece of material so there's no real difference in them, you have to tie it up yourself but that's easy and I'm sure you could find a youtube video on how to do it. So get the cheapest I say. Or else get a close carrier which is like the same thing but already sort of tied iykwim![]()
Heaven - I have done many you tube stalks on how to wrap them lol. I just wasn't sure if one was better material or what sort of material they should be?
Crystalboo - I'll have a look at the close carriers
Thanks
ETA: I had a look at the close carriers on ebay and they are more expensive than the wraps I found on another site.. Wrap it probably will be!
I think that the Hug-a-bub is great. But it does take a bit of time to get good at it - and honestly trialling it with a teddy bear isn't much help! But once you get good at it...it rocks. My newborns loved it, and slept well in it - we walked the neighbourhood for hours with me wearing it, and never a back niggle. I did have a baby-bjorn (and a few others ;0)) which i did use for really quick trips in and out of daycare etc. And i liked having a basic sling (you can make one from a single sheet) because once DS2 fell asleep, i could easily flip it off over my head and lay him in bed.
If you are strapped for funds I would invest in a ssc like an ergo that you can use for when they are newborn (fold over a towel to use as a infant insert for extra support and Froggy their legs up) then after approx 3 months you can wear them on your back and with a sleeping baby on your back you have both hands free
Another Hug-a-bub lover here! Bub was in it almost all day everyday up until a couple of weeks ago when he started sleeping longer when I put him down.
I didn't find it that hard to get used to putting it on. If I'm going out I will usually put it on before I leave so I can just pop bub straight in when we get there.
Happy wrap hunting![]()
I love my Hug a BubI made my own for a back-up, if you'd like I can send you one of the others I've made? I'm selling them on etsy but I don't mind gifting you one
Even if you just try it out to see how you like wraps before you go buy a proper branded one?
Teni wow, so generous. Yes I would love thatI don't mind paying you for it, at least give me your bank details and I'll deposit some $$ for postage..
Kaze - an ergo, I've heard of them, but i'll look into them. I'm not sure about a back carry. I've never tried one and I'm not sure how comfy i would be with it? I'll do some investigating![]()
I have a hugabub. I love it. It's great until baby figures out looking forwards is more interesting, then you have to get a different wrap/carrier for hip or back carrying. FYI, you can't use wraps (or any carrier, IMO!) as a forward-facing carrier.
back carry (in a good carrier) is the best thing since sliced bread. in fact i hardly ever front carry now. i use ergo, kozy mei tei, maya mei tei at the moment. ds is 10.5kg and can hardly feel his weight. great for getting the baby to sleep so you can go about your day too. look for one that has a hood, so when they fall asleep you can clip it on
I just bought a 2nd hand Ergo. They are AWESOME!! Hip carrying has never been more comfy, and I used to be a die-hard fabric wrapper (storch wraps, etc). I haven't tried the back carry with it yet, but I anticipate good things.
I had a Moby when DD was little and it was great. I don't think they are all the same TBH. In style they are, but the fabric makes a big difference. I also made my own homemade one, which was good, but then I got the Moby and it was much better because of the high quality fabric - it held the baby close and firm and comfy![]()
Hi Blessed.
Am another HAB fan. I didn't have a pram for DD until she was 5 months, and just used the HAB for all outings. We were out and about from the day after we came home from the hospital and she would sleep all the time in it at first. As she got longer, we put her in an upright position, and then faced her forwards. She loved it! I think she thought she was walking! I used it on and off until she was 14 months without any back problems. It was particularly a life saver during flights. There is no metal at all, so you can just leave baby strapped on while you pull out all your water bottles and other highly dangerous stuff!
Had a second hand bjorn that a friend gave us and this just made my shoulders hurt when I used it and broke even though DD was not very heavy. I used this mostly when the HAB was in the wash.
I was going to make my own, but DH and parents insisted I buy the real thing. Now though am thinking of making a couple of spares so that I have a back up when the hab is in the wash. A strong cotton jersey is all you need. Approx 6m of cloth, cut in half lengthways and then hemmed so that it doesn't fray. I reckon. I haven't actually done it yet. ANd I'd test it with something heavy, like a 5kg bag of rice before putting bubba in! You could always find out how much an alterations place would charge to do that, as it is pretty easy and might work out cheaper than buying the real thing.
Good luck.
