DS gulping air while attached during feeds.

DS was attaching great to start with but Ive noticed lately he's taking these great big gasping breaths while he's feeding. Ive checked & his nose isnt covered.
Im quite large chested to start with & seem to get really engorged & the milk literally pours out of me. Could this be causing him to gulp & take in air at the same time?

Any ideas or thoughts how to fix greatly appreciated, as he's been incredibly windy & refluxy lately & I think this is the cause.

Could be the forceful letdown, yeah. You can try triggering letdown yourself first, then put him on once it's slowed down a bit. Or feeding in more upright/leaning back positions (so he's woring against gravity)

This is happening to me as well.

My massive boobs and fast flow is giving her bad gas. My MCHN has advised me other then expressing initially, laying on your side to reduce the flow or have baby attach while I am laying on my back (too difficult or me), there really isn't anything to be done until she gets a little older and bigger.

Until then, I am using infacol and it seems to be helping. Instead of 6 out of 8 feeds being really windy it now is only 2-3 and definitely not as bad.

Sounds like me njon2. Sometimes when i go to put him on the boob its literally squirting out before he even goes on. Will try the side feeds & Ive just started using the infacol too, so will see how that goes.

njon2 does your dd kick & scream & throw herself around with her wind? I spoke to the MCHN here & she seemed to brush it aside as normal, without seeing it. But he is soo bad sometimes I wonder if it is? He almost throws himself out of my arms & smacks his head on my chest while Im trying to pat his back & move the wind.

Yes she does.

When she's on my chest she will kick and try to push herself up higher, arches her back, squirms or just squeals.

My MCHN said she may have reflux as well as gas but only a GP will diagnose her with reflux.

Also, I was told the infacol should provide some relief straight away but it can take a few days to see if it will work properly. If it doesn't, there is also gripe water (double check the ingredients as some have alcohol/ethanol in it), or there is the Brauer colic relief or stomach calm you can use.
