had one last week - was kinda sprung on me (as in, i was on the table, having an exam and he said "ok, while you're here, how about we do this"). i don't want to google cos the few things i looked at seemed to be extreme worse case things!
anyway - main question - if you've had one, how long did you bleed/cramp afterwards? with all the weird things going on with my body and bleeding lately, this stop start stuff is doing my head in - i'm not sure if it's residual bleeding from the biopsy or whether it's some attempt by my body to get AF to visit early after last months m/c.
also, was the sample collected enough for the results to be clear? the doc has said if the sample wasn't good enough i may need to have a d&c for full clean out and sample collection at that time. if i do end up having a d&c, what amount of time am i likely to need to be off work? my job is office work so not heavy work by any means - but focussing with constant cramps isnt' easy - and i sit about as far from the loo as possible within the building, so if i am likely to have a couple of days of significant bleeding, i'd rather not be at work - if it's all clean and pretty much over with, i'm sure i could go back sooner. all my angels have been natural miscarriages so the only procedures i've had have been ivf related or full lap surgery (which is also a maybe - but trying to focus on one thing at a time)
Hi BG, I haven't had an endometrial biopsy whilst awake, however when I have had 2 laps done to remove endo. With both my laps they did a D&C aswell and then I had a D&C when I miscarried. I was in alot more pain with cramping after the laps. When I just had the d&c for the miscarriage I had it on a friday and went back to work on the monday. I don't remember having much physical pain, but I was pretty out of it emotionally. I think if its just a D&C you would be fine to go back to work in a couple of days. I was still bleeding for 10 days afterwards but this might be because of my miscarriage too? anyways it wasn't really heavy or anything.
thanks girls - i guess if i have to have it done (it's only a maybe) i can hope it's a thursday or friday so i have a few days off. dont' want to have to take time off work, so if it was early in the week, i'd push myself to go back to work
BG I also had a d&c with a lap - and I had time off only for the muscle soreness from the lap puntures, no cramping at all related to the d&c. Only pain I had was relating to the gas and shoulder tip pain. To be honest, the night of the d&c I woke up to a granny nappy size pad, and more blood than I have ever seen in my life - but by the next day, it was pretty light - nothing even like normal period flow for me, by 2 days post op, it was virtually nothing at all.
Hope that helps a bit.
if it's a straight D&C, you could actually be back at work the next day. I had one done when I was 19 - done because I was getting bleeding after sex. I had no issues - mild cramping but nothing worse than when I had AF. What you need to keep in mind is that after an anesthetic/sedation, you can't do the following things for 24 hours:
drive a car
operate machinery
sign legal documents
give legal advice
You should not drink alcohol for 24 hours. Many Dr's will also tell you that you can't be the sole carer of a minor for 24hrs as well - some say 12 but most say 24.
it's a common side effect Ausgirl - in most cases it resolves within a couple of hours but, considering it can take up to 24 hours for the body to fully process some drugs, it can theoretically last for 24 hours.
Due to the nature of my job, I wouldn't work the next day if i had any sort of anesthetic anyway. Any action i carry out on someones record is essentially a legal decision on behalf of the government - if i screw up, it can have far reaching implications, so even if i felt up to it i wouldn't. i am more wondering if it was done on a Monday (for instance) whether i'd just need to arrange monday tuesday off work, or whether i should organise more. thankfully work are really flexible - but for call demand and staffing requirements, it's better to know in advance if possible.
it's all theoretical at the moment - if the biopsy is not clear cut, or shows anything odd, i'll have to have a scan first, then he'll look at whether i'll need just d&c or whether to do lap at the same time and get rid of the problem cyst beside my ovary while i'm under. if it's the latter, i know it will be fully dependent on what they find in the surgery so i can't much anticipate that one lol
this bleeding is bugging the bejeepers out of me - answers and a plan of attack would be nice about now (and knowing if it's from the biopsy or af on her way would be a great bit of insight too lol)
