    Have no idea!

I've just started looking at slings for this bub due in December. Never used one for Moo so am a newbie

I know I'm going to sound odd...but do you wait til they're born before buying slings? Or does it not really matter?

    Told you I'd sound odd

I used an ergo from birth with our dd. She was so little at first you could barely see her in it but we love it and use it all the time. I think the one shoulder slings are really good for NB's but we never used one!

I'd wait until bub is here then try them out. DD hated all the carrier/slings we had until she was 2 months and ONLY liked the Magic combo carrier (got it from the ABA) then baby bjorn when she could hold her head up and now tha Kathmandu carrier that she is older. Next bub will just have to suck it up but I will wait until its here before I look at another carrier.

I waited, only because I wanted to try them out with bub to see what I liked. That was a little tricky if bub wasn't in the mood when trying on, so I actually bought a real cheapy ring sling, tried it for a week or so and then went and bought a really nice one once I knew I liked it itms

Once I bought my close carrier though there was no turning back for me!

I was realy glad to have the Close Carrier before our DD was born. She was in it at 3 days old. We also had an Ergo that we used from 4 weeks, and a wrap sling that we used from 10 weeks (because the Close was in the wash)

I'd want to have at least one ready to go.

One of my friends bought me a Bubba Moe for my baby shower as she loved hers. We had been given a Baby Bjorn too (secondhand) and had my sister's Ergo.

DD LOVED being in the Bubba Moe and we used it daily until she was about 8 months old! We wore her cradled in the heart/cradle position. It was her favourite place, she was instantly content in the sling. We used the Bjorn a little bit once she was a bit bigger but she didn't like it much so we used the Ergo instead which she loves.

Thank you for all your replies, very helpful! I like being organised so am leaning towards buying one beforehand...but then I remember bubs is due start of summer so may not be out much to need it. Decisions, decisions

Definitely get one now. Mine was a lifesaver. DS has been a very challenging and screamy pants baby so it's near impossible to put him down. I use it a lot even at home. We've even slept in our sling lol. PM me for details - I made my own wrap sling and it's just as good as the fancy ones, only cost me $25 for enough fabric to make 3.

I got at ergo before DS1 was born, didnt like using newborn insert so I bought bubbasling which was great until 4 months then was hurting neck as too heavy. I then used ergo.

DS2 I bought close carrier before he was born and used it all the time from 1 week of age till 9 months. Now use ergo.

You won't have to be out to need a carrier hun! I use mine all the time at home, more than when we're out. I have used a baby bjorn, an ergo, a peanut shell (pouch sling) and a wrap style carrier. My most favourite without doubt is the wrap carrier, but I have only used it in the colder weather. So if you live in a hot climate or it will be hot when bubs is born, it might not be the best one. Though generally, baby carrying can be pretty hot regardless of the style of carrier! I still only use the wrap and the ergo.
I love the wrap because it is so supportive. I have a terrible back and pelvis (I still have SPD and back issues from being pg) and I can wear DS in it for hours. I wear him around the house and when we go grocery shopping. Plus bub is really secure in it and you can use both hands to do other things, and move pretty vigorously with bub on and he doesn't get too jostled about.
I also love my ergo for going out on bigger trips, and when baby is bigger. It is supportive and comfy. I can still wear DS1 in ours and he's 16.5kg and 3y.o. in 8wks (OMG, really?? where did that time go, lol!???). It's great on long walks when DS1 will walk for a while, but not the whole distance, he will climb on our back and rest for a while. DH also likes the ergo and will wear bub in it too. He won't use any of the other ones. There are also new 'improved' designs out since I got mine, which is just a basic one. My only gripe with it iis the waist tether strap is fairly short and at a pretty normal size 16, it's getting pretty snug around my hips! And to buy the extension strap is more $$$.
The baby bjorn I didn't find too great and gave up when DD was about 7ish mths because it hurt me to wear her in it.
The peanut shell was ok for quick trips to the grocery shop when you don't want to get the pram out, or fuss with the other more fiddly carriers, but it does start to hurt your shoulder/neck/back after too long (about an hour or so I found). When we lived in our 3rd floor unit, I would carry DS1 in it, and help DD up/down the stairs so it was good to give me a spare hand then.
That's all I can think of, lol! HTH!

I used mine regardless of where I was! Just as much at home as when I was out actually! DD had silent reflux and was a terrible day sleeper until 6 months so she literally lived in the sling - had most of her day sleeps in it!

If your bub is anything like mine, you'll use your sling all the time at home in the first few weeks. Our bubba was a screaming, unsettled, refluxy monster & the ergo was the only thing that gave her comfort and us a bit of a break. I used the ergo every day for the first 4 months. Rarely used the pram. Still use it alot. But I agree with pp get one before bub comes you just never know, they really can save your sanity!
Oh & our dd was a summer bub & we used our ergo sport daily without an issue just dress bub lighter!
