Dd2 woke up on Sunday from her nap with what looked like mozzie bites on her cheeks, so we sort of dismissed it.
Monday she woke up from her nap with the same thing on her cheeks and forehead. Again I thought it was mozzie bites, but then I changed her nappy and noticed the bites everywhere over her legs, butt and back. I posted pics on Facebook (thanks to the lovely Bb women who gave me advice!) and a friend came out and picked up some medicine from the chemist for her. We gave her a dose and it faded eventually by night time.
Since then she has come out in random hives, they come and then fade within a few hours and I'm not sure what to do!
We haven't introduced new things in her diet, she hasn't been playing in grass, no new washing powder - there doesn't appear to be a common trigger for them. They are always there after a nap, but I've washed the sheets. It's a relatively new mattress (December 2010) so it's not a festy old mattress, plus she got them after sleeping in our bed!
DH thinks it could be set off by a mozzie bite, but she shares a bed with dd1 for both naps and night sleeps and she doesn't have any bites on her?
They don't appear to be bothering here, she's not scratching them and she's no whingier than she always has been....
I cant really help alot but dH gets what they Drs think are hives too - he gets giant lumps all over him and we have no idea why or how! The only thing that makes them bearable for him is to take Claratyne - and they are very itchy for him too. Calamine loation is good for the itch - if DD's start to itch - I hope they dont though!
See no real help at all huh! DH has had blood test after blood test and there is no answers.... hope they go away soon for the poor poppett! xox
Has your DD2 been sick at all? Or look like she might be getting sick?
My DS2(was about 16months at the time) came out in hives a few weeks ago too - woke up from his day sleep and my mum (who looks after my boys on my work days) called me at work to tell me they were spreading. They started around his groin, then tummy, legs, neck, back, face and started to come up on his arms in the time I was speaking to her. I took him to the doctors that evening - just to be on the safe side - cause they were a little irritating, particularly around his neck - he kept scratching. He couldn't really say what had caused it, either an allergic reaction to something or it could've been a virus .
We hadn't done much different - the only thing I could think of was we'd been to a mongolian restaurant 2 nights prior and both my boys had some prawn crackers - but DS2 was ok the following day and the morning prior. Mum had also taken my boys down to the trampoline down the back - so maybe it was something he'd brushed against. But then that week both my boys ended up sick (I ended back at the doctors a week later which DS2 was diagnosed with croup and a middle ear infection - which I hadn't realised he had - i thought he was playing with his ear because of his tooth about to cut through) - so it made me wonder if it was maybe a virus afterall. We haven't had an issue since - and they have been down to the trampoline since - so I don't know what caused ours yet either .
If it happens again I would maybe arrange an appointment for the afternoon/evening and get them looked at by your doctor. But in our case there was not much he could do - just recommended to rub some QV cream onto them to relieve the itch and not use any soaps or anything in the bath. They ended up fading away within a few days.
Hope you's can figure it out and it goes away for you's soon.
It sounds like its the warmth of being snuggled up in bed that is setting them off. I know when I get them it's made worse when I get hot. I still have no idea what causes mine. Dd1 gets them as an allergy to ceclor (an antibiotic).
as a kid (about 10yo it started) i started getting hives, mum hadnt changed anything at home, nor had i started eating new or different foods, after some time testing different things it turned out to be citrus that caused it. was getting them on a friday after sports day when they served out oranges
i can have lemon but all other citrus is out unless i want hives the size of 50c pieces
My little sister when she was about 6 had hives for weeks, with no known cause....Dr thinks ot was because she had a virus, but that was a while beforehand. She still gets random hives, still no idea why, and she's 23!! Sorry not really any help, hope they bugger off soon poor darlin.
Like I said on FB, A and I get hives from preservative 202/sulfur dioxide. A had a really bad episode with full on swollen lips and itchy tongue after eating some porridge with dried apple in it. He'd had the porridge before but not for a while so I'm confident that was the culprit. I am really strict on our diet but sometimes things slip though or they just happen and I can't pinpoint the reason When there is an episode they can last up to a week of coming and going and tend to flare up from heat so avoid baths or hot showers cos they really sting.
I also think that sometimes food sensitivities can happen with foods when there has been no previous problem noticed, or maybe there was but it wasn't severe or the same reaction as now.
