    Teachers Aide

I am seriously considering doing this course at TAFE. I have sat down with DP and we have agreed that when we move to Katoomba i wont have to work and i can finally study and become something which i am very excited about.

I was wondering if anybody can tell me their experiences with this course, is it something that is going to be really rewarding? I haven't decided what age group id like.

Is it a cert 3 that you are thinking of? I'm not sure that there's a teacher aid specific course, but I believe the Cert 3 has teacher aid modules that you do instead of the childcare modules - so more targeted at the school system rather than the child care system.

Wanted to add that I don't think you really get to choose the age group you work with in the state school system - teacher aide jobs are pretty well snapped up as soon as they become available in my region - and usually by parents.

    Hi LMS-
I did a traineeship to become an aide many moons ago.
The education part of it was (I think) cert 4 in language and literacy.
To my knowledge, you can't do it via traineeship anymore.
I found the job to be very rewarding, but funding was/is limited.
Full time hours were as rare as hens teeth in Melbourne.
I supplemented my income by also working in after hours care.
It is hard work for little money.
As with all jobs, support through the school is a plus- I worked for a great principal and an awesome teaching staff, def a plus.
I worked mostly with children that had mild to moderate learning difficulties- mostly in literacy and numeracy.
I worked with students of different ages, Over the years.
It is something I'm hoping to go back to one day.....
Let me know if you have other questions.
