Tmi.. Bub has lots of trouble pooing!

So as the title suggests, DD strains and cries and has a really hard time filling her nappy, and what she finally gets out is hard and looks like it hurt her alot! She is ff with a morning meal of fruit or mushy food. I try to make sure she's always got a sippy cup nearby coz I thought water would help, so i try to get a whole sippy cup (about 150ml I think) into her a day. This only really came about when we moved from Darwin to south west wa, I'm wondering if the cold has anything to do with it. I also had the same trouble as a kid so could it be hereditary (sp?) and is there anything I can do to make it easier for her? I'd rather not use suppositories as she still does go every few days, was more wondering if there's any foods or massage or anything like that would help.

How old is she (sorry I'm on tapatalk and don't see signatures) Chamomile tea mixed in with her bath water can help.
Have you changed her formula at all, moved from stage1 to stage2 or anything like that?
If she's on stage 2 formula I'd go back to stage 1 and see whether that makes a difference.

Warm bath, massage, prunes or prune juice (watered down), yogurt (for a nice healthy balance in the gut), grapes (she is abit young for these but my DD always seemed to go after grapes), bicycle legs, water.. Is her formula whey dominant? Maybe change formulas to one that isnt so heavy?

Hi hun, sorry to hear about your lil one's poos! My DS was always soooooo constipated and once it got to the stage where I had to put a thingie up his bottom. Not nice! I started stewing apples for him and since then he's been great. I just mash it well so it's like puree and he loves it. Sometimes I add a bit of stewed pear but usually I just do 100% apple. Might be worth a try! GL hun.

I've also increased fibre in his diet so he gets weetbix in the morning and I try offer him drinks all day long. He's not a big drinker I also read that banana can constipate babies so I only give him a tiny bit on his weetbix.

    Oh I remembered.
One of the absolute best things for constipation, and I know at least 2 hospitals that use it, is pear juice.
Pears are probably equally as good. The juice is available in a tin - golden circle - from most supermarkets.

We were also told no more than 1/2 a banana a few times a week. DS1 had big issues in this area.

    Thanks

Pandora shes just on 6 months (today!) and on stage 2 NAN pro formulaic try to get the HA but it's not always available. She does eat bits of pear but will try the juice i think.

So maybe I'll give her weetbix and apple/pear for brekkie and water and prune juice (mixed like cordial maybe?) thru the day and yoghurt after dinner? And massage, never done that one before, just on her tummy?

Yep, Im thinking thats your poo problem. She is on stage 2 which is casein dominant(same as cows milk) instead of a whey dominant formula (the stage 1 and some others go right through). Its bound to make it hard to poo. Changing over to step 2, step 3 and so on, isnt needed.

Yep giving her things to help her poo will be good, but wont fix the issue at hand. It will just give her some relief every now and then.

Hmm she had the trouble before we switched to stage 2, but since it can't be helping I'll go back to the stage 1 and maybe shop around for the HA. and no banana!

Little_mrs, I ff DS until 12 months and then gave him cow's milk. I do remember him being more constipated around that time but it was due to the change over. When I ff, I never went to stage 2.......always fed him the Nan HA , stage 1. Like MummaMia said, stage 2 is too heavy and your DD should be on stage 1 anyway being only 6 months. Your plan with the weetbix and fruit/yogurt/prune juice throughout the day sounds good, GL hun!

If it helps, when kids have the runs, its an old but good trick to feed them the B.R.A.T diet. Which consists of Banana, Rice, Apple sauce (or pureed apple) and toast. So steering clear of them things when they are having trouble pooing should help. But also a good thing to know when they have the runs because of teething or illness.

I forgot about pears, yes, they are really good. Good for refluxy bubs too as they arnt as acidic (another random bit of info lol).

I hope she starts feeling better soon. It really sucks for us adults so I could imagine how horrible it is for them.

Oh and I never put DD on the stage 2 formula, she was always on the stage 1 the entire time which was about 18 months.
