Thoughts needed! To get a new pram or to not...

I know I'm being a bit ridiculous (you'll see why below) but this is doing my head in (yes, ridiculous but true). I need some thoughts from you wonderful BB girls!

My dilemma...should I get a new pram for this baby?

I'll be honest, I don't 'need' a new pram AT ALL. I have the Baby Jogger City Elite which I LOVE. It's an amazing pram and totally setup for two kids. It's comfy for babies, especially if I get the new cocoon for the newborn, and the toddler seat sits at the front and is perfect for DD who is still very happy riding in the pram (well most of the time anyway).

The only issue I have is I'm getting a capsule for number 2. I really regret not getting one the first time around so it's a definite this time. Now the capsule attaches to my current pram no worries HOWEVER, DD can't ride in the pram with the capsule attached. So as much as it's handy, I would only be able to attach it if I didn't have DD with me or if she was to walk or use a skateboard on the back. Neither is really an option as she'd just run off.

So I'm considering getting the Baby Jogger City Select so I can use the capsule and a toddler seat at the same time. I love the Select and its setup for two kids is unbelievable. I can see how being able to use the capsule and a toddler seat would be so beneficial. But I just feel a bit ridiculous getting a new pram when my existing one is more than sufficient and such an awesome pram.

What to do?! Is it worth me getting a new pram for the added benefits? Or am I just a crazy woman with too much time on my hands and a possible pram obsession?

Thoughts, ideas, advice - all welcome!

I would sell the elite on eBay- and totally get the new pram :-)

Maybe consider how long you'll actually use the capsule for? And so, is the short time the baby will use the capsule actually worth the new pram? Just a thought

I thought I would use the capsule alot more than I actually did so I would probably use what I have and use the extra $$ on something else. Can bub go in the current pram without the capsule in it? I found it a royal PITA to the get the capsule in and out of the car and didn't end up using it that much after the first couple of weeks because he was so heavy!

Me, I wouldn't bother. Some babies work with capsules, some don't. and it would only be useful for a certain length of time anyway.
But if you can sell your current pram and upgrade and that's what you want, then why not?

I think getting a new pram is a practical idea. If you keep the system you have now, its going to hinder. So get what is going to make things easiest, and indulge in your new pram

That said though, i do agree with the others, ive found having a capsule to be not all that exciting. I bought it thinking i could carry lil man into kindy in it and not disturb him, its too heavy and bulky for me and im too short to carry it lollll, i rarely get the capsule out.

But i stick to what i said, get what is going to make things easiest.

I have the select and a unity capsule and have never used it with the pram! It was just to hard and fiddly. If it's the maxi Cosy capsule you are getting then I would say get the select cause it just snaps in and it's a great pram.

Not ridiculous at all! I had exactly the same thoughts.

The answer to this question is always - buy the pram.

I'd keep the elite but put it away for a while. I'd try and find a second hand city select on eBay, use it while you have the capsule then sell it again when the capsule goes. The capsule is my lifesaver and making it work with your pram is so great.

I am a pram addict and I too have the bj city elite.... And the select looks awesome..... But..... I used a capsule for dd on the elite..... Rarely! I'd rather take her out of the car seat and put her in the pram itself rather than leave her in the capsule on the pram. I was in Singapore at the time, so in and out if taxis. It was convenient for getting around there, but the capsule just made her too hot. I just got a buggy board type thingo for ds to ride on when using the capsule, which he still uses now anyway.

I would buy the pram!!! You have also mentioned you may have more babies - worth it to buy the pram now and get more use out of it. I have a capsule and it is such a lifesaver with two or other toddlers. Mine is bigger than the Ambulance hire ones so I have been able to use it for up to 9 months (but my babies are long). It is easy enough to carry around when they are tiny, but by 3 or 4 months it is definitely easier to be able to put it in a pram. Have I convinced you yet?

From someone who has just bought the Select - DO IT I have a pram and a stroller already but wanted a capsule this time around. I was planning on hiring the capsule but ended up getting such a fantastic deal we threw that in too.

I had a feeling you girls would help me realise that a new pram is a must and not in the least bit OTT

I think I'm sold on the idea but now I just need to decide where to buy it from. They are so much cheaper from the States including postage but obviously the warranty is void. However, for almost half the price, I think it's a risk I'd be willing to take especially as I could almost buy another whole pram with the savings! Who needs a warranty?!

There is a lady selling them on eBay and says they come with a one year warranty but that would only be on the fabric, etc. The frames on Baby Joggers are lifetime warranty but only if you purchase direct from a BJ supplier and it must be in Australia. So it sounds like she's buying them from the States but she's local and it would save me mucking around with an OS purchase.

    Hmmm, decisions decisions!

ETA: we'll be buying or hiring a Maxi Cosi capsule so the 'best' (perfect?) fit for the BJ prams.
I use my pram a lot so when I think capsule, it's not really for me to lug around IYKWIM, it's to connect to my pram. I'd use it on the pram far more often than not - at the shops would be a big plus.
Our current pram is fine for NBs without a capsule or bassinet, it's more the 'waking a sleeping baby' to go to the shops, MG, etc that concerns me. DD very rarely resettled if I woke her taking her out of the car - total PITA.

I've hired a maxi cosi for DS 2 and it's great. The hire place came out to my home and installed the base in the car. I'd recommend them if you are in Vic. PM me if you want details.

I just took the Select for a test run....drooling big time. I'm IN LOVE!! The sales assistant was lovely and so helpful. We put DD in for a ride both in the top and bottom positions and she attached the Maxi Cosi for me both times to see how it would fit and how it handles. I was so impressed with how well and easily it steers. DD loved it to - bonus! We tried out the 2010 model which was good to do as it was clear to see DD is really a bit too tall for it so the changes made to the seat in the 2011 model would be really beneficial for her.

Now just have to decide where to buy it from

Thanks but I'm in WA How much do you pay a month though? I think I'd be better off buying one as it'll see through two newbies - hopefully - so I think I'd be out of pocket roughly the same amount plus I could sell it when we're done.

    Hi Taurean,

Totally selfish question. I was looking at the City Select today, and found that with the baby lie flat thingy in (is that the capsule?), the toddler seat doesn't recline. With a maxi cosi clipped in, does the toddler seat recline? The sales people in the shop were pretty clueless.

Basically, I want baby to face me (whther in a car seat or lie flat thingy) and toddler to face forward but be able to lie down and have a good old snooze. Oh, and be able to get on a bus, go shopping and not spend a fortune. Is that all too much to ask from one pram?

    Thanks, and sorry to hijak...
