Hand foot and mouth and newborns

I always hate when I can see child care ringing me up. Todays call was about DS1 and hand foot and mouth. Super! He's spotty but not grumpy so hopefully it will stay like this.

I know that with DS1 it will just run it's course. But I am a little worried about DS2 who is 5 weeks old.

Is it more serious for newborns?

Any tips on how I can prevent DS1 from sharing this with DS2? (if he hasn't already)

    Thanks,
    Fiona

I totally understand your frustration. My DS is always catching things at daycare.

DS had quite a bad case of hand foot and mouth when DD was 5 weeks old and she never caught it. We tried to keep them apart as much as possible. Wouldn't let DS touch DD or be too close to her. Also washed our hands after touching DS (holding hands, playing etc).

Hand foot and mouth is a lot of the time passed through poo so and can stay in it for weeks after the blisters have gone so be super clean when changing nappies. Washing hands after after changing nappies etc.

Hand foot and mouth sucks big time. Hopefully your DS only gets a mild case and your DS1 doesn't catch it. Good luck x

DD is just getting over HFMD. She had a mild case and hasn't been grumpy or gone off food and drink at all. Her blisters have cleared so we're excited to be heading to a party today.

I was worried about myself, hubs and DS getting it (if DS hadn't already had it and I just hadn't noticed). We haven't had any issues. I tried to get the kids to stop kissing each other, for them not to touch each other on the face or hold hands etc... impossible. I do have 2 toddlers though so having a newbie might be a little easier.
If you have some of that hand sanitiser stuff maybe use that? I washed my hands then sanitised after every nappy changed, after wiping her nose of touching her skin anywhere and it hasn't spread.

Good luck! I hope your DS doesn't have it too bad and that your little one doesn't get it at all!
