    Buying prams from the USA

    Hi Girls

We are pretty keen to buy a Baby Jogger City Select from the States. I'm aware the warranty is only valid in the States but with the dollar so good, we are willing to take that risk

Can anyone recommend a good site(s) to buy prams from America? Is there anything I should be aware of?

I have got a quote from Baby on the Run (in America) and including their postage of USD$185, it would be about AUD$850 for the Select with the extra toddler seat and car seat adapter - much cheaper than here in Aus.

Any advice or ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

    Hi Taurean
I bought a BJ city mini from Country Moose Kids (google them). Delivery was about US$110 or so (back in May last year).
They were good but didn't tell me when I ordered that it would be on back order. Also was quite a wait on some accessories I ordered too. Overall I got pram and accessories for price of just the pram here - but with the strong Aussie dollar you will save even more!
I was nervous about it but overall it was ok and I would do it again to save a chunk of cash

Thanks Mrs P but it looks like they have gone under. I'd found info about them on Google the other day followed by a whole heap of nasty comments. So many poor people (MANY Aussies) have paid for products they've never received. How horrible for them!

Thanks for the info anyway. I must say I'm a bit concerned about delivery times from the States. Not that I'm in any hurry but I don't want to be waiting months either.

I bought my limited edition bugaboo from bed bath and beyond, and shipped it to aus through hop shop go. (used them or shipping only, not for purchasing on my behalf)
We had no probs, it helped that they took international credit cards, this seemed to be a problem with some of the other stores that didn't, it was better than paying another premium to a shipping company like hop shop go to pay for it on your behalf.

Process was good, when we bought it, with the price they were in oz, we saved $400+ or so doing it this way, paying for shipping and duty fees here etc!

    Good luck!

Have you tried belly2baby in Aus. They have the BJCS plus toddler seat and tray for $929. Only a bit dearer than what you would pay from the US but with the warranty.

I was looking at buying from overseas but always seem to get lemons so didn't want to risk it. hth :-)

We did exactly what you are looking at doing. Baby jogger city select + toddler seat and adaptors...just wish I ordered the adaptors for the capsule cos I had to buy it here for $100....from baby on the run off eBay. We got it in about 2-3 weeks, no hassles and it hasn't skipped a beat. For a double pram it is the best one I tried, especially as my dd1 is quite tall. Basket underneath is awesome!! The warranty business was a bit worrying but so far so good!

Yeah, sound like you got in just in time!

Ellasmummy - would you mind PM the name of the place you bought yours? I really want the Amethyst and it doesn't look like they'll be in Australian stores until Nov/Dec which is too late for this impatient pregnant woman

Tarsh - thanks hon, I had found that deal and it is awesome but I really want the Amethyst colour (it's dark purple) and they won't be in Aus stores until the end of this year. Bugger!

Sahbear - that's a great tip, I hadn't seen that site! Was it a lot cheaper to do the purchasing and shipping seperately then? I'm happy to give that a go if it makes a bit of difference.

Well I've just bought my Maxi Cosi capsule (at an absolute steal might I add ) so I'm ready to get the pram now!!

I bought my baby jogger city mini double from Baby on the run and it was great, everything came within 7 days, I would recommend them. Some of my friends have bought theirs from Winkalotts from NZ which is cheaper too.

I think they charge a % to purchase it for you, but i cant remember how much! Sorry - not very helpful am I!? Hopefully it explains it on the website.
Shipping can be a little expensive - so we went to a baby shop here - to get the dimensions of the box and the weight - so we could work out approx how much shipping was with them before we did it!
I was slightly embarrased asking to see the box in the store here - so i made up a little white lie of moving across the country and needing it the info so i could ship it over!

also - i have heard good things about Baby on the run!

Also I think the maxi cosi fits better into the pram, although the safe n sound seems fine it just looks a bit weird lol. DD actually hates the capsule and turned out to be the biggest waste of money plus the $100 on the adaptor to put the bloody thing on!!

Thanks lovelies!! I think we are almost ready to rock

I bought my Maxi Cosi Mico on Friday for an absolute steal! Mum works at a baby shop which had 20% off for 3 days so we got them to put away the only Maxi Cosi they had. Mum came with me when we went to collect it and we were allowed to use her staff discount so I ended up getting it at 30% off!! $280 for my capsule, pretty damn happy

Ellasmummy - upgrade, why not?! It is a brilliant colour. Did you google it? I'm in love with it! I'm pretending I didn't hear what you said about the capsule. This baby will love it!!

Belle - thanks hon! I'd got a good quote from them so it's good to hear they didn't let you down

Sahbear - what a great idea! Both DH and I were impressed with how cunning you guys were. Nice one!! I used the shipping calculator on Hopshopgo and guessed the weight (think I put 20kg as I'd order a few a accessories including the bassinet) and the quote was around $180 which sounds right given the quotes I've received direct from a couple of suppliers over there. That's handy info though so thanks for that.

Will be jotting down all the prices I've got today and will work out who'll be best and cheapest. New pram, here we come!!

I hired a Maxi Cosi and it is the best. I have the clips for the bugaboo and it is so easy to fit on. I know the clips for the BJCS are very similar in how they work. I prefer to clip the capsule in rather than have it sit on a bar.

Let us know how you go with your shopping endeavours!

It looks super easy! I've got the clips for City Elite so I'm going to give it a test run on that shortly. The concept is identical for the Select so it should be easy peasy. Just wondering why the hell I didn't do it for DD instead of getting the bassinet! (Although I'm going to get the bassinet for this baby anyway... I figure it will be good, even if it is only for a couple of months...OK, so I just can't resist getting the extras!!)

Thanks hon! So far I'm only hearing good things about it. I was so impressed by our 'test drive'. Even DD gave me a high five while she was in it!
