They seem to be comparable with the Stokke regarding seat height and European build-quality, and are likely to be easier to fit into my car, but I'd love to hear what others who have one think of them before I commit to either - both require quite an investment in anyone's language!
we ended up getting one. haven't had the baby yet, so yet to use it or even unpack it and have a play, so can't say pros and cons yet.
I do wonder if the storage on it is too small. but being 5ft I didn't want a pram that would be heavy for me, I wanted one that would fold up compact and be easy to manouver which it does seem like, so that's why we went with that. If we had the money I would have bought the Stokke (still love that pram). Joolz was an expensive purchase but didn't want to go that extra few hundred for the Stokke.
I've got the older model Bloom and I LOVE it, I've been using it 18 months with not a problem. I had a look at the new ones the other day and oohh they've got some pretty new colours.
The storage on it is small and doesn't look like they have improved it on the new model but there is a XL shopping bag you can buy for the Joolz Day which is huge and when you don't need it can rolled up and put in the bag under pram or kept in boot......I invested in one the other day - it fits my Bloom, so now extra happy with my pram
Not sure where you are located but my local baby shop which stocks the Joolz had them cheaper than I could find anywhere online.
Thanks for your replies! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me about your purchases and that you are happy with them.
One problem that I have is fitting any pram into my car. I now have five kids (new baby is 2.5 weeks old) and even with a big, fat 4WD, I still fill it up with all three rows used when my whole family travels together. Our eldest son is almost 15yo, so we still have at least 2 years of traveling together before he is independent with his own wheels.
The Joolz seems like it would fit into the space that I have available, which makes it very attractive. The Stokke just fits if I stand it on its head and tilt its axis at exactly 34 degrees (I'm joking, but that is just about how tight the fit is). I have been able to see and use the Stokke at a big department store in Sydney and I was quite taken with it. The Joolz seems to be harder to find - I'll have to see where they are stocked and if I can get to see one before I get so desperate for a pram that I buy something right off the 'net.
I have found the site of a baby store that I have visited in-person before and it has the Stokke on sale with the price the best I've seen. I have searched for reviews on the 'net and the Joolz has very mixed reviews, particularly regarding the after sales service provided by the company when things have gone wrong. It appears that when prams have had issues the company seems to be very hit and miss, which worries me a bit. I live in a remote location in outback NSW and to have to get the pram back to a store at all is an issue, much less to a company who may not value their customers as much as I would like!
After a bit more research, I decided on the Joolz. My reasoning is... number one, it was given a good review here and the pram had lasted at least 18 months for you, so that bodes well. My second reason for getting the Joolz was that it actually has suspension! The Stokke has no suspension to speak of and reviews that I read when I looked into it further all said that while it was fine in shopping centres and on city footpaths, anything less than smooth was going to be a rough ride. Given that most of my walking will be on sub-standard country roads and dodgy footpaths, the Joolz' suspension seems like a big plus. I also like that the Joolz gives a carry cot included for less than the price as just the seat in the Stokke.
The Joolz accessories are not too pricey either and for $1500 I got the carrycot, the seat and chassis, the XL shopping basket, a UV protection sunshade, a cup holder, a parasol and a nappy bag. I had found the Stokke for $1450 with a free summer kit and as tempting as the beautiful, classic beige dots and the lowest price I've ever seen for a Stokke in Australia are, the suspension and the fact that it fits in my car better led me to the Joolz.
I ordered it from an online store and they emailed me to tell me that they expected a 5-6 week wait. There was nothing on their website to indicate such a long lead time and on doing a bit more research with other stores, I discovered that most said they would get it within a week and have it to me a week later, which is a lot better than 6 weeks! It would pay anyone who is looking to buy a pram online to call or email the store to be sure you won't get stuck with such a long wait. I ended up cancelling my order with the first store. In the end I bought the Joolz Day pram from Minimee in Crows Nest, Sydney. They ordered it on Monday of this week, I got the call today to say it had arrived in their store from the importer, they'll be posting it to me today and they anticipate I'll have it by Friday. I must say that I am impressed by their service all 'round.
I'll post when I get it and tell you what I think of it - as the veteran of five babies and many prams, I'll be very interested to see what progress has been made in the last 6 years!
are you going to use the cot attachments for night time sleeping? we are, and I'm trying to find a mattress protector that will fit. it doesn't seem to be a standard size, so not sure what to do
No, we are not using it for night time sleeping. We may use it if we are away from home, but otherwise we either use our Miyo baby hammock during the day or we co-sleep at night.
The baby hammock took some getting used to, mainly to get my head around the concept, even as an experienced mother, but we are very happy with it. It was not expensive at all and Boo sleeps very, very well in it during the day, especially if he's windy and unsettled - if nothing else, it buys me time to have a shower, sort some laundry and to brush my teeth!
How long to go before your baby arrives? You might be able to find a bassinet mattress protector at a baby store? We have one that uses elastic to secure it under the mattress - it is not flash but it works! I'll have a look around and see what I can find online.
I had a quick look on the 'net and found a few places that have bassinette mattress protectors. If you Google "Bassinette Mattress Protectors" you should get some results. One brand I found is Playgro and it is waterproof, hypo-allergenic, etc., and at $5.50 each you could buy a couple to be sure the mattress is always protected. Not sure how it is secured (as I said previously, our protector has two elastic straps that go under the mattress) but the size seems appropriate - 50x40cm. You only need it to go under most of the baby, not all of it - they manage to get their messes in a lot of places but we find it is mostly contained in a relatively small area - "bonnet to booties" explosions are pretty rare!
Got my Joolz Day pram today and I am so excited! My thanks and admiration go to Minimee for their excellent customer service!
The Joolz Day pram was super easy to assemble and, having already been for a walk in our rough ol' country town, I am suitably impressed by it! Boo was very comfy on both the flat and rugged, uneven surfaces and he slept most of the way. When he was awake he was very calm and happy in there. It feels very sturdy and balanced, turns on a dime and is easy to steer, even with one hand - so far I just love it! - and everyone who's seen the pram has commented on how beautiful it is!
My only con so far would be that you cannot fit the UV shade (additional accessory) and the mozzie net at the same time. Out here, the sun and mozzies (and flies) are not mutually exclusive, so a way to have both at the same time would have been a great idea. However, the problem can be solved if you purchase the parasol. It can be fitted with the mozzie net attached and provides more than adequate shade.
The white colour is not a true white - more of a winter white or pale cream. It is just beautiful and I think it will be very serviceable regardless of the pale colour - allof the fabric is washable. My thinking was that in the heat of summer I couldn't imagine anything worse than being forced to sit in a black car in 40C heat and that's what I'd be asking Boo to do most summer days herewith a dark-coloured pram, so a pale colour was the way to go.
At this point, I think this pram was absolutely worth the money... and then some. I am taking it to the city tomorrow (our nearest regional centre anyway), and will be able to report on it's performance there too.
I have now had the pram for about a month and it might be time for another update on my thoughts on it.
Well... I am still just loving it! Every time I use it I am struck by how much I enjoy using it and how happy Boo is in it!
The things I have found to be a bit of a pain are:
The cover for the basinette section does not fully zip off, which in summer seems like a silly design flaw. I will say, however, that even in the scorching heat up here a couple of weeks ago, Boo did not get overly hot or sweaty in there and it does protect him from the sun.
I had to go back and read the instruction booklet again to figure out the final bit of folding the pram chassis down. It is not really tricky but it was a bit stiff at first and eluded me the first time I tried. As I have collapsed it more times, the mechanism has become a bit more free and easy to use.
The things that I have found to be brilliant are:
Handles easily and turns on a dime - it truly is beautiful to push.
Boo is comfy in there even when we go on on our rugged country roads and footpaths.
It does fold down to be pretty compact! I have a giant 4WD to fit all my kids in but must have all rows up when we travel, so luggage space is at a premium for us. When all three rows of seats are being used it fits behind just one of the rear seats. We recently did a big trip to southern NSW and I can't complain about the pram fitting in at all - even I was surprised at how well it fitted!
It is easy to clean - even the white is easy to clean... and it makes you notice just how much grot gets onto a pram! I spot clean any marks now and then (I have even used a baby wipe with good results) but after a month I have given the whole thing a quick once over with some very baby-safe all-purpose cleaner (Enviroclean Vigor), an old toothbrush and the shower head to rinse it. It has come up beautifully and I am thrilled by the ease with which any marks came off. Many people have commented on my possible insanity for having a white pram but I am pleased with how easy it is to care for.
Love the mattress in the basinette. It seems to prevent Boo from getting too hot and sweaty even on hot days. I have just used a muslin wrap as a sheet on it and it is great. When we went on our trip, I totally forgot to take the hammock, so we used the basinette as his bed. He slept beautifully in it - he even started an amazing routine of sleeping every night for a stretch of 5 hours or more, which his parents definitely appreciate. Now back home, we are back to using the hammock but the pram certainly did the job of his bed while we travelled.
The shopping bag, which some folks have wondered about, is actually really good. It won't fit your weekly shopping in there, but it does fit a bag or two of goodies.
If you are big on looks, be sure that everyone will comment on this pram. Not one Mum who has seen me when I'm out and about has not commented on what a beautiful pram it is.
I am sure I will think of other things, but these are a few that come to mind.
All up, this pram suits me to a T and I absolutely love it! For me, and Boo, it was worth every cent.
SarahW - thanks for all those details about the Joolz Day - I pick mine up tomorrow (in the blue denim) & it's great to be armed with all this information beforehand!
SarahW - glad to hear you have happy with your Joolz too, they are a nice looking pram The bassinette is great for travelling, my DD had not trouble sleeping in that when we were out & about or when we'd travelled to visit the rellies. I bought the silver for the same reasons you bought the white one and nearly 2 years on still love it
