    Eczmea in 12 wk old

Poor DS has eczema. It is getting worse, I have been using Almond oil on him and his baths are only luke warm. I guess it is the cold weather making it worse also. My DD had it also but not this bad. I'm thinking I might try some Moo Goo but thought I should eliminate some things from my diet too as I am still breastfeeding. I was wondering if anyone has any tips?

i feel your pain! my DS had it as well - although his dr did say he'd most likely grow out of it & he pretty much has already. i found this thread helpful. we used moogoo, tried not to bath him every day - similar things to you. he did get it pretty badly on his face where dribble had been or on his face where he'd rubbed dribble (around an eye). some of it got so bad we went to the dr & he needed antibiotics. we were also prescribed a cream for the face which wasn't a steroid but needs the dr to call up & get an approval number.

i do always prefer the natural treatments first though.

a couple of people suggested corn flour - we never tried it but they both swore it had work for them

DD1 has just started getting it. I get it too in winter, just from really dry skin. I use Dermeze ointment for both of us straight after a bath/shower when we are still warm. We also have oatmeal baths. Either with a oatmeal wash or every now and then I just throw a handful of oatmeal in the bath. I hope it is just a dry skin problem and not a reaction problem.
What washing powder do you use? and what baby products? I was told by my Doctor to stay away from Johnson's baby products.

I have eczema myself and I have done everything I can to make sure DS doesn't get it, so far it's working! Firstly when I was pregnant and in the 1st couple of months breastfeeding I took eczema shield a probiotic you can get at a health food store or pharmacy. If you take it your bub will get it through your breast milk. Personally moogoo is no good for my eczema it just doesn't moisturise deep enough. maybe try some zinc and casteroil cream, this is also what we use on ds's bottom every night and it has kept nappy rash away too. Aveno body wash is all we have used on ds since he was a few weeks old and we also wash his hair with it rather than buying the separate shampoo. If the eczema is really bay you can try a wet dressing. Smother the area with cream and I do mean lots of cream than apply a wet/damp bandage with a dry one on top and then dress bub as usual. I often need to do this with my hand as they get cracked sometimes if I have been cleaning or eaten a food I've reacted to. Leave the wet dressing on for a few hours and then when you take it off smother it with moisturiser again. As for food in the diet all the nightshades are generally not very friendly for eczema nor are citrus.

My DD started getting really dry skin around the same age, I wouldn't call it eczema but it was very dry. A friend suggested using that oil wash that starts with K in the bath, it's white with a purple lid and her dry skin cleared up quickly. I love moo goo but agree - DD has very dry cheeks from teething at the moment and moo goo isn't cutting it. We use paw paw ointment and/or zinc cream to stay on top of the cheeks.

starangelk, could it be Alpha Keri Lotion, I had infantile excaema from 6 weeks of age and my mum used to bath me in that.

I would look at cutting out things in your diet, and give it a few weeks before introducing them so they get out of both of your systems, it may be that there is an intollerance to dairy , wheat, eggs or something like that, keeping a food diary will also give you ideas on how things you eat affect DS

the main thing that gave my girls eczema was washing powder - I use Lux flakes or Omo sensitive.

I also love using Oats in the bath (put a handful in the toe of an old stocking and use like a facewasher!)

    All the best!
