    Cat Food

I have a Ragdoll cat, she is beautiful and getting old. She is coming up to her 14th birthday. She recently had a vet check and vaccinations and the Vet commented on how healthy and well she is, including her teeth.

I feed her Purina Pro Plan Indoor dry food and usually a supermarket pouch on every
2nd day. She quite often vomits up the wet food which can happen in an older cat.

I have been forgetting the pouch on some days and she has been fine with just the dry food.
Does anyone know if a Cat can live soley on dry food alone and I just give her a chicken neck every so often? I forgot to ask the Vet.

    TIA

The farm cats here ONLY get dry biccies and survive quite well, one of them is 15 or 16 years old and she only gets biccies plus any mice, birds rats etc that she catches.

Maybe the food is a bit rich for your girls tummy now, I think raw chicken necks and dry food should be fine.

I am not sure of the brand you're buying her, but I know Moe throws up with certain flavours of the fancy feast stuff so now we are down to about 5 flavours that don't seem to affect him. Maybe its the flavour making her sick? I dunno just throwing it out there.

The good quality dry food is the best. It's probably one good reason why your cat is so healthy at 14. Wet food is a much more inferior product to feed them and can often cause kidney problems and urinary tract infections. 100% premium dry food is fine to feed your cat.

Our indoor cat lives on just dry food and the occasional meal of wet food (usually if we're trying to dupe him into eating worming paste) - no problems and he's pretty healthy. He is a bit younger than your girl though at 9 years.

I think some brands also do food mixes designed for older cats, so if you do still want to give the occasional wet feed, maybe a look at these could be worth it?

Mine is on dry food only. Gets snippets of whatever I'm eating. Going to start her on rabbit soon (for her teeth after they've been properly cleaned under GA). Mine is 13.

Went to a seniors night at the vets last week and they say to have 6 monthly check-ups at the vet with senior animals.

Thanks for all the responses. The Purina she is on is pet shop one and not supermarket. I asked the guy at the pet shop and he suggested this one as it also helps reduce odour of the faeces.
I will get Royal Canin next time, he said at the time they were about to go through a huge recipe change and to start with this one and then change once Royal Canin got sorted. So I will stick with dry only and give her a chicken next every so often.

I was laughing with the pet shop guy as I said I want and indoor, long haired and senior dry food, he just laughed and said it would be great to be able to order one we really wanted. The other funny thing was the conversation we had about Anastasia, I told her how old and he said she must have been one of the original Ragdolls to be bred here in Australia and then went onto to say did I get her from this breeder lady.
I was amazed at his knowledge, I am in the West and the Breeder in in South East so it was quite amazing he knew where my girl came from.

I get my dry food from the vets and I mix TSD dental with a senior blend.
