Ever measured your menstrual loss? Careful if you're squeemish.

On embarassing bodies recently they had a group of women using a 'cup' of some form and measuring their loss to see what the average was. Now I am fine with my blood, seeing other people's though .
Anyway, have you ever measured? I did this cycle out of interest as on the show, they said anything over 80ml was considered a worry - day 4 and I am at about 82ml.

Pfft! I reckon I'd get over 80ml easy!

That's only 2.67ml a day over 30 days of blood accumulating in your uterus. a drop in the ocean compared to the total volume of blood in your body.

I watched that episode also, it certainly makes you think.
I would be lucky to get 50ml...I have always been very light.
It would be interesting to check one month though.

I use menstrual cups and do this. I don't think it's that weird I was a super heavy bleeder pre baby...had my first AF and it was very very light!

Well, that's just what the doctors and specialists on the show were saying, anything over 80ml, especially close to 100ml is far too much loss and the chances of their being a problem are much higher (ie anaemia, signs of endo, etc).

I could see complications arising from an excess of 80 ml being lost a month. I used to get horribly tired after AF every month when I was vegetarian.

That's interesting... I've no idea how much I lose, but when I donate blood, they take about 450ml... They'll do that every 3 months, so you'd have to have menstrual loss of 150ml per month to equal that. I wonder if menstrual blood is more 'concentrated' or something??

Huzzah, I'm not the only one!

Since coming off the minipill a year ago, my cycles have been approx 4.5-5 weeks, I lose up to 5ml pre-period, 10ml on day 1, 7.5-10ml day 2, 5ml day 3, under 5ml for the next up to 3 days. So usually a 3-day period with a bit of spotting either side, losing up to 40ml each time. Sometimes only 30ml. I sometimes worry this isn't enough, but don't fret too much. Every now and then I'll lose 60ml instead in the same time so that surely makes it all better.
