Frustrated and am still waiting to see the GP!

    Hi All!

This is my second pregnancy and the doctor's clinic told me not to come in until I've hit the six week mark.

So I'm seeing the doctor this Friday, but now I'm compelled to do a whole heap of home pregnancy tests again, just to make sure I'm still pregnant.

I have been feeling okay - just occasional queasy feeling, constant peeing, tiredness, smell sensitivity, etc. No bleeding or anything which is good.

But the frustation! I just want confirmation!

Is anybody else in this boat, or is it just me?

First of all Congratulations on your pregnancy!

That sounds really strange to me... I know in Melbourne if you're going Private you need to book in with OB's and hospitals asap, so waiting 6 weeks isn't an option...

But I wouldn't worry about waiting for confirmation, you're BFP is just that. My GP doesn't do bloods or monitor HCG levels etc. Both times I've been to see her when we've gotten pregnant she's said 'congratulations' and given me my referral. When I asked her about this last time, she said she was happy to do it if I wanted, but really in her opinion monitoring HCG just caused more stress for the mother. It can't actually prevent anything, if a miscarriage is going to happen it will happen and a low HCG doesn't always mean that you will miscarry.

Anyway, it made sense to me, so I've never bothered with the bloods. But if you want things to move along faster, I'd just make an appointment with another GP, cos waiting 6 weeks is ridiculous!

    Hey Miss E,

That sounds great! My OB is booked already anyway, and I just had to get the referral letter from the GP.

Called the clinic and am going in first thing tomorrow. Sick of waiting around. I need the confirmation.

my GP saw me at about 5 weeks but he was happy with me having POAS (several times!) as confirmation for him. he gave me a referral for the hospital then & there but that was about it. i do find the early weeks tough though - waiting until the 12 week scan

Don't you hate all the small town rules and regulations lol. Good on ya if you want to have it confirmed and feel more comfortable knowing whats coming next all power to you. I'm exactly the same way and felt a little lost during my pregnancy's like what to do now lol. I love every opportunity to hear or see if bubs ok. Best of luck for a happy healthy pregnancy.

Sometimes getting in earlier isn't that great. I went and saw my Dr after getting numerous BFP's - I was 4 weeks. Well, her pregnancy tests kept coming up negative and so she sent me for blood and that came back negative too (didn't give quantities of HCG - just negative or positive, and obviously my levels weren't quite high enough to rate as positive). Man is that stressful. I think I done nearly 30 HPT's (all BFP) because it was driving me insane having my HPT's say one thing and the doctor's tests say another.

i can sort of relate to this... im pregnant with #2. saw doc 3 days after missed period because i cut myself in the garden and needed a tetanus shot. mentioned " i think i'm pregnant", he took a test and said "no you're not" and i said " yes i am"... anyway did test at home, sure enough i'm pregnant.
so booked in to see another doc at 6 weeks and he didn't do any tests just took my word for it. i found the consultation a huge waste of time, he said come back at 9 weeks. he also basically said the test for down syndrome was a waste of time and gave me info on it but made sure to mention that this info is written by the companies that want you to have the test but most of the time its not worth doing.
i live in a country town so haven't got much of a choice with doctors and no one i know to recommend a good antenatal doc. i am quite happy to just see the midwives through out the whole pregnancy like my 1st pregnancy in melb but they do 'shared care' out here.

Many Drs now just accept that you have had a +ve HPT as confirmation. HPT will never give you a false positive

Glad to hear that you can rest easy tomorrow anyway.
