can you train her with treats or something?
as in when she starts barking yell no! and when she stops give her a treat??
sorry thats the only idea i have!
it must be very frustrating xx
My dog barks constantly. It doesn't matter whether she's inside or outside, she barks. It's not an angry bark, it's a happy, playful kind of bark.
She barks at the most stupid things. She barks at our cat if it moves and the bird (in the cage) if it flaps its wings. She barks at the kids if they move. She barks when the phone rings and even if someone gets up off the couch. I've just put her outside because of her barking and she HAS NOT STOPPED all morning! I don't even know what she's barking at.
Please help me.

You can hire citronella collars from the council, it squirts out a spray each time they bark, mum had to do it with two of her dogs, it worked with one but the other one loved the taste but when one of them stopped so did the other.
Or water pistols.... have them around and when she barks give her a squirt. When she gets quiet give her a treat and praise. Occupy her, maybe its an attention seeking thing. Get a kong and fill it with food so she has to work at getting it out... or a treat ball or something like that. Don't feed her out of a bowl, but instead give her 3 kongs a day.... something like that?
if u yell at a dog when its barking it thinks you're joining in
Friend of mine used the citronella collar, worked a treat
We have same issue with 1 of ours driving us MENTAL!!
Have tryed water, chcuking a ball at it, hard thing is that to open door and get to it takes a bit off effort so by time done that he has forgotten why we are chcuking water at him!!
I am thinking of biting bullet and getting a coller (please dont shoot me down)
I was going to suggest the citronella collars too.
Now if I could stop my dog from farting.....
LOL Nai. If only!
I will try the water pistol thing, I can't use citronella in my house![]()
U can get a muzzle for them. We have one for our dog. He can still eat lick and drink with it, but helps stop the bark. We put it on when he really gets going and he sulks, generally now he is pretty good and only barks at other dogs walking past
The other upside in the muzzle is you can have it on with kids around with no fear of the being nipped but only licked
Tinks we had the same problem hun, day and all night. We bought something called a gentle leader because a friend used it on their dog and it worked. It is about $20 and is like a head collar. Comfortable to wear but somehow does the trick. They can eat and frink with it on. Our dog wears hers every night now and no more barking. Goodluck![]()
I don't know about your local council but when we had our dog we hired a anti barking collar.. The one that sprays citronella. It only took 2-3 barks out of her and she settled right down..
I'd go the distraction mode instead. So much easier for you. A couple of things we did:
1. Kongs. You stuff them with food and they take ages to lick it out. A big fave was to fill them with stuff mixed with peanut butter. It makes it really hard for the dog and takes them ages. After they are done they are so tired they just sleep.
2. Ice buckets. It's probably too cold right now but in summer it's fun. Just freeze their fave treats in an ice cream container (you sort of need to do it in stages so that the stuff is in the middle) and they can see it but can't get it and spend ages licking and scratching the ice to get to it.
i just got something called an "outdoor bark deterent" just google it. it looks like a small bird house and everytime your dog barks it sends a very high pitched noise out.
we can't hear it at all but i know my dog can. it helps sometimes just not when he is really upset.
Lulliloo, that sounds interesting... Our dogs barking is usually triggered by our next door neighbours dogs barking, this sounds like it would help with them too.
What is the range? Ideally this would be centrally place out the back, but she barks down the side of the house too (at people walking by)... Would it still be affective?

it does about 50feet/15metres. supposed to help with neighbours dogs too if they are within range. i got mine at vet stop dot com dot au
i think it has reduced his barking a bit.
Hi Tinks,
Barking collars and bark deterrents are a fantastic way to curb your dog's barking. The real trick is making sure you choose the right one for your dog. I have a little dog, so the spray collars have been fantastic for her - she is no longer the little yapper that drove me nuts.
My brother has a dalmatian, his dog just licked his lips every time the spray collar went off - it didn't stop his barking at all. The guys at Bark Control have been fantastic in helping both my brother and I (even though I sold him on the spray collar, they were happy to upgrade him). I have included one of their articles about bark collars, have a look at it when you get the chance. Might even be worth giving them a call... Good Luck
Hi Tinks
What did you decide to do?
My dog is driving me up the wall, school time is terrible as everyone that walks by she barks at, she even runs under the house and barks through the vents... Which is really helpful if DD2 is asleep
