Amazing 40th bday pressie ideas needed for DH!

So I am wanting to get something super fabulous for Dh's upcoming birthday. He has had a pretty rough year or two health wise and we really want to show him how special and important he is. I thought of a supercar ride but he was not too enthused about the idea at all.
DH looks like a tough guy but is pretty sensitive and very sentimental so I was thinking of some of the fingerprint key chains/jewellery but have not been very inspired by the sites I have seen. Previous pressies have been watch, briefcase, wallet etc etc.
    Please help!!!

Completely off track to the way that you are thinking but the first thing that popped into my head was a double pass to 'Gold Class' at the Cinema. I think without the food etc it would start around $80.00. We got given this as a gift when I was pregnant and it was wonderful. Big comfy chairs, really small cinema, no idiots in there because what idiot would pay $40.00 to see a movie in Gold Class. They have a bar and a menu - You can order whatever you like before you go into the movie and tell them what time you would like it to be served to you in there and that is exactly what happens. We had drinks to begin and then 1/2 an hour in we shared nachos and then towards the end of the movie I had a choc-top delivered and DP had a coffee. We had a really good time and I'd love to do it again.

^^ That is a great idea!

Pity your DH isn't enthused by the supercar ride - my DH just did this the other weekend for his 40th b'day pressie and loved it. He has it all on
USB. Got to drive 7 laps and ride with an experienced driver for the other 4 laps.

If you hop on sites like red balloon and so forth, they have a lot of ideas for 'experiences' (such as the supercars)

What about an experience voucher. Red balloon, Freeman X all have many options of what to do from V8 super car drive or be driven, sky dives, hot air balloons, aerobatics flight etc etc.

I would suggest a Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb but it looks like you are in Melbourne

You could always look for an airfare sale combined with a last minute 5 star hotel deal, and get away for a night or two. This of course relies on you having babysitters handy.

If he's the sentimental type what about getting a beautiful photo of the kids blown up on canvas or metal? I think its nice for milestone birthdays like a 40th to have a present that can be kept forever

If he is really sentimental, how about making him a photobook about what a great Dad/hubby he is?

Ohh great ideas thanks everyone - I'd love something nice for him to keep so will investigate some of the suggestions, I especially like the metal etching idea together with a special outing! So off to google more things....any other ideas let me know!!!

This thread is right up my alley. DH turns 40 in a couple of weeks, doesn't want to do anything and didn't like my present ideas. A supercar ride was on the list, hot air balloon, tall ship sailing. All kinds of things. So hard to buy for.

I have a difficult hubby too! He's about to turn 30, become a dad for the first time, and we've been together 10 years soon. So 3 pretty big milestones in less than 2 months.

He doesn't wear a watch or any jewellery other than a wedding ring, he doesn't need wine/spirits (he's got some pretty nice bottles from the last few years), and is impossible to buy for.

I've gotten him concert tickets for his 30th, and a typical dad's day gift (socks, jocks, favourite chocs and a magazine - I always got my dad a crossword book, so thought a car mag would be the equivalent for hubby!!). I like the idea of 'experiences' gifts, but for our 10th anniversary, I really want to get something he can keep.

I'd appreciate any and all ideas

Ok so I ignored him and got a fab deal on red balloon with 11 laps in a supercar - 7 driving and 4 as a passenger. Sooo excited and am pretty sure he will be too - now just to keep the secret until September. I am going to try and make a storybook with the girls on Snapfish too. Thanks for your help everyone. So so so pleased! xxx

Other things I saw were naming a star, adopting a grape vine, cooking course/dinner combo and hot air balloon rides. Good luck!
