Hello I feel a bit silly asking as this is my 5th but it was different with my other pregnancies,i always felt them earlier & i have only just started to feel anything at all with this one.I am 21 weeks at present & i do feel some movement occasionally but not very much at all.I might feel one or 2 soft movements during the day (like a little tap or a pressure/whirling sort of movement) & then maybe a few more later at night once i'm sitting quietly on the lounge. The woman at the ultrasound said the thickest part of my placenta was right at the front, would this make a difference? I'm 37 & weigh more now than with my last one also.I usually carry in the back but this time i feel like i'm definitely carrying in front.Would these things make any difference do you think? I would appreciate any assurance you can give me Oh also the 3 scans i have had(9 weeks,13 weeks ,19 weeks) havn't showed any problems & at the 19 week scan the heart was fine & he has been moving around fine at all the scans ,i just couldn't feel it The Ob & the midwives have had a bit of trouble finding his heartbeat anytime they have looked with the doppler.Last time the Ob tried he just couldn't get it at all .I asked if that meant there was a problem he said no & that it was fine on the scan(the day before) so he didn't bother to keep looking. Am i just worrying for nothing or is it abnormal to not get a lot of movement at this stage sometimes?
TIA for anything you can tell me & thanks for listening
I am sure you are fine - my OB with DS2 told me it depends on where the placenta is - kind o flike hitting someone through a phonebook (!!) - so it is cushioned and harder to feel. i found it reassuring to see on the screen him kicking around but not feel it - made me realise it was just 'cushioned'. however, i do think it is better to be safe so if you are really worried and it seems less than you are used to (with this preg) - try all the usual things like cold drinks etc and if no mvts then go get it chcked. i would prefer to feel silly than to be worried or for there to be an issue.
I am sure it is fine though. xxx
Thankyou MamaPan I definitely considered that with the placenta but wanted to hear what other ladies thought or had experienced so it's helpful to hear that from you.Oh & i'm terribly sorry but i realised after i posted that i'm 21 weeks on Monday not at the moment, having a dumb day today lol.I need to go & see one of the midwives for a lactation consult so i might just slip in a question about the movement while i'm there I don't see the Ob for another few weeks & he is really hard to get in to see so i'm sure the mid wife wont mind, she is a nice lady,i feel more comfortable with her anyway .
Hey! You just joined the Belly buddies group I am in .. I had an anterior placenta when I had the twins and I didn't feel them for ages. With this one, I feel it, but on the U/S I could only feel maybe half of the kicks I saw on screen. Having said that, if you're concerned, no harm in checking
Placenta positioning makes a huge difference. Both my boys placenta's were anterior and didn't feel any movement with DS1 till 20+ weeks and DS2 was around 19ish weeks as well. This one i know the placenta is prosterior and at the bottom also and the movements started at 16 weeks and have been alot stronger.
Just chat to the middie and they might even pop the doppler on there for you for a bit of extra reasssurance.
My placenta was on the front too, which did cushion the blows a bit so to speak. I didnt feel any movements until after 19weeks, plus they didnt really start getting stronger for a few weeks after that. wasnt sure they were actually kicks at first coz they were light, but then i did eventually. prob just have to wait for bub to get a bit stronger. plus the ob had trouble finding the hb on mine as well because of the placenta, so i told him where the mw normally finds it on the side and he found it too. im sure all is alright, but again if you are anxious about it talk to your midwife, im sure she can relieve any fears.
Sorry but I have no experience with placenta being anywhere but in a good position, but just wanted to say that even tho I could feel movement at 21 weeks it was very inconsistent and I worried myself silly if I went half a day without feeling bubsy move. Now, I am almost 32 weeks the little bugger doesn't stop So, I say go get it checked for your piece of mind - I did when 22 weeks as I thought I hadn't felt anything for a couple of days. Its very true that they move and you don't feel it, around 26 weeks the baby was doing a back dive on the monitor (whilst having a scan) and I didn't feel a thing!! I am sure you will be fine hun xxx
Thankyou all very much,i appreciate your comments.I will check with the m/w when i see her .Unfortunately i can only see her officially for the lactation consult as they don't have a midwife program here.I had midwife care through out my last pregnancy ,only saw a doc twice at the start,& it was the best experience! My Ob is a nice guy but he's very busy & my visits to him are very quick usually. When the m/w looked for the heartbeat when i initially saw her ,she ended up after much searching saying oh it's hiding in the corner lol(he was right down in the corner on top of my fanny)
Ok my pms are working nowAlso i think the little man has been reassuring me as i have gotten some nice movements from him yesterday & even when i woke up this morningStill very soft but quite definite & a little more often ,yay!
My placenta is Anterior too I seem to have a 'dead spot' at the front where I cant feel much but I do get a lot of movement down either side (more so when Im laying in bed).
I do get a few head rushes (dizziness) when baby rolls over Im guessing its because it presses on the placenta and I can feel some sort of movement at the same time.
Thanks Wannabeamumma.Yes i definitely have a spot right at the front where i can hardly feel anything & it seems to be more on either side of that it feels more noticeable.I've been really pleased that just in the last day or 2 i have gotten some definite movements, these & the comments on here have made me feel more reassured
