Hi everyone, I am new to all this. I will explain my situation. DH has a low sperm count after a VR. I booked in to see a gyneacologist who said IVF is our only option (he didnt check me out, just saw DH's results). Anyway I said i wanted to get started on IVF straight away so he gave us the number of a FS to ring straight away so we can try to get on the next cycle (only 6 cycles a year done where i live). So i rang, she ordered immediate blood tests which i did. She rang back and said my LH was high but progesterone low. So in a week i have another test and she said if i havent ovulated she will put me on bcp, if i have she will put me on the spray. What does this all mean? She is in Melb and i am in Bendigo (2hrs away). I could ring and ask what is going on but would rather get it in a bit easier to understand info from here. Have sent off the registration papers and the application for police checks and child protection checks (mandatory in victoria, australia). Will the checks get back in time? Supposedly they take 3 weeks. Its all happening so quick so I'm a little confused. DH and i still have to have a counselling session (also mandatory). How long does the spray or bcp go for? what happens next?
IVF is confusing when you first start it all. You'll get the hang of it as you go through your cycle. Hopefully it's a short and sweet experience.
Usually they put you on BCP to take charge of your cycle. It means they'll time your cycle to fit in with your FS. It's not uncommon for them to do that. Are you sure FS will put you on BCP if you haven't ovulated? I would have thought they would get you to take BCP if you have ovulated. Maybe just clarify with the FS.
With the spray I'm asumming it'll be synarel? Synarel will suppress your hormones so you don't ovulate before your EPU. What your FS wants is for you to produce lots of follicles and collect them at EPU and this is where the injections of FSH come into it.
I can't help with the security checks as we don't do them in QLD.
Porsche has given you some great advice. I did what is called a down-regulated cycle that involved being put on the BCP for a few weeks and then the nasal spray was also introduced. This was to take my hormones down to a 'base-line'. It is basicaly done to give the FS full control over your hormones. As Porsche said the Synarel is given to stop you from ovulating before your EPU.
I am from VIC, but I did my IVF/ICSI before the Police checks were introduced so don't have any advice on length of time.
All the best of luck - I found the nurses at my clinic were wonderful to call up and ask lots of questions.
you may also find some ladies that may be able to help in the LTTC thread. https://www.bellybelly.com.au/forums...2011-a-166252/
i found the ladies in here were the best help and i know how you feel asking all these questions but the nurses are all so good and this is their job. best of luck to you.
