Question Do you give a gift for a Christening?

I haven't been to a Christening before so I have no idea! Am I meant to bring a gift? If so is is something for the baby? the parents? Sorry If I sound like a complete idiot, I just have no clue when it comes to things like this!
    Thanks for your help

Yes you give a gift, something for the baby. The gift shops normally have all silver keepsake stuff to give as christening gifts.. Not sure if there's a specific 'rule' as to what you should get though?

I have always given a gift, where is the christening? Is it a particular religion?

There are no set rules I know of in regards to gifts, but many give things such as a children's bible, or prayer book, perhaps a noahs ark toy, also there are lots of frames, money box, etc type things you can get. There are usually sections at gift stores that will have a small amount of christening gifts to choose from. It's usually for the child being christened. But you can think outside of the square also and get something different. Hope this helps.

Yeah, normally it is a keepsake type present. I generally don't get the usual gifts, certificate holder, christening frame sort of presents as chances are they will get a few ( I know I have multiples of these).

My favorite gift is to get a picture of the child/baby and get one of those picture in the crystal 'thingy ma bob' (sorry to tired to think of better wording) that they do a photo places.

Yeah I have always brought a gift. I think last time I got my baby cousin the Peter Rabbit bowl and cup set. Wasn't to expensive cos they make them out of hard plastic too now a days so could be an idea?

In our shop we have a section for Christening gifts and like the others have said it is mainly keepsake gifts. Some other ideas are a 'keepsake' brush and comb set, jewellery, a Christening Photo frame which includes pictures of the child and god-parents, birth certificate holder. How about a book of nursery rhymes if you are not the religious type to give a prayer book. Perhaps a plant? There are alot of camelias with names that apply to occasions or are named after people - you just have to find the right name/species to suit your occasion.

Thanks so much girls. Now that you've mentioned all these ideas, I do recall seeing Christening type gifts in gift shops and jewellers silly me!

I'm so glad you've asked this question. I was thinking about it just the other day. I have got 2 to go to this year and I had no idea cause the last time I went to one was when I was little. Lol.

If it's a girl you could get a nice bracelet. You could get a Bible story book if they are churchgoers (they will probably already have a child's Bible if they are churchgoers), or you could get a nice ornament (Bunnykins etc). HTH

One of my favourites that DS got that wasn't doubled up on was a cutlery set with his name engraved in a nice presentation box - just for a idea that's nice but not something everyone's going to look at and give
