...Me! All three of us, and many, many others, have been diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age.
I am incredibly lucky that mine was found early. The cancer was removed and I am undergoing radiation therapy and when that finishes I will have annual checks, but otherwise this should all be behind me by the end of the year. Finding breast cancer early makes a huge difference. A really huge difference.
Given my situation, hopefully you will forgive me for taking this opportunity to nag. Have you done your self-checks this month? It is so important, I can't stress that enough. If, like most of us, you are a bit hit and miss with self-checks (or a lot hit and miss), maybe a reminder in your phone or a post-it note on your bathroom mirror might help. Please all post in here to let us know that you've done your checks. And if you ever notice any changes or lumps, please see a doctor straight away, don't put if off. It is scary to find something, but most times it's nothing, and if it is cancer, it's going to be less scary if it's found early. Hearing the words "well, it's cancer" are a huge shock. But they do sound a lot better with "but we've found it really early and it's very small" after them.
Wishing you all the best as you complete the treatment you need to to be able to put this all behind you.
Can I ask, do you know what the deal is with checking while pg and bfing? Apart from all the extra that's there to check , how different does a worrisome lump feel to normal?
I'm glad you found it early I had a friend diagnosed when she was 26 so I have been careful with checking ever since then as you are never too young to start!
I so wasn't expecting you to type this post about yourself :-( buy thanks for reminding me to do the checks and I wish you all the best with you future health.
Thank you for the reminder. Wishing you well for the rest of your treatment and radiation. A good friend of mine has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. x
Oh So glad you found it early!! Thanks for the reminder too.
Jennifer- I have no idea about checking when pregnant and BF. Mine just feel lumpy all over the place so I have no idea if I would even notice!! I have one noticible lump that feels like a small grape that I found and freaked out about but had a US and it's all fine.
(((GBH))) It's a scary time, but finding it early is fantastic! My MIL has had BC 3 times in the same breast (once after a mastectomy.... pretty rare occurance) and she's kicked it butt every single time.
Wishing you all the best for your treatment and recovery. I'm so glad you found it early.
