    silly idea or not?

I've ordered myself an ergo but for time being I'm still using the piccolo and doing a back carry with DS. We were at the shops on Friday, and DD wanted to be carried so I ended up putting DS in the trolley and putting DD (just over 3yo, and about 15kilos) in the piccolo. By the time we had finished the shopping DD was sound asleep on my back (she rarely day sleeps for me now so this was )

Anyway to get to my point, we're off OS in Feb, and we were planning on taking our maclaren umbrella stroller and the ergo. But I told DH about carrying DD and it not being anymore uncomfy than carrying DS, and he thinks that we should just forget the stroller and take the ergo for DS, and have the piccolo in the backpack should DD decide she's too tired to walk and wants carrying.

WDYT? DD will be almost 4. I'm guessing that she'll be walking the majority of the time, and DH and I will both rather not have to bother with a stroller. Is it doable to carry an almst 4 year old? Or will I regret not having a pram jic?

She probably won't be much heavier - but she will probably be taller. Do her legs and so on get awkward at the moment? Would it be difficult to get a cheapie stroller where you are going if you need one?

She's pretty tall at the moment! I wore her whilst I finished the supermarket shop and she wasn't in the way at all. I think we may go for a walk with her in one of the carriers a week or so before we go and see how we feel about it then.

Hmmm I think take a stroller. On hols you always walk so much more. You could be out all day & carrying her might get to be too much for extended periods of time.

DS is 4 and although we have the carrier still, no way would we let him use a stroller! He can walk 3-4 miles no problem - and has for a good year or so (when so inclined: we got tougher a few months ago). He'll be in the carrier again in a couple of months though as we don't let him loose on Bonfire night - he has to be in the carrier so we don't lose him.

Strollers can be useful to keep a child contained in an area or just for carrying all the children paraphenalia (sp) so it may be worth taking one from that PoV, especially if you have a runner.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is where you are going to carry your "stuff". So if you are out for the morning sight seeing you are going to need nappy stuff, drinks, food, camera, extra jumper/hat, maps etc (well I would). So when you go for your trial walk, I'd be taking that bag too (where are you going to carry that stuff?).

And if you do change your mind OS, a stroller is a cool thing to bring home!

I agree with Bloom...the hardest thing will be carrying a child each and a giant bag. I always take a stroller when I'm carrying ds and dd is walking just to put the nappy bag in. It's also good to have a seat for a child if there isn't anywhere at a cafe or on a bus for them to sit
