We looked at this capsule on the weekend because I want a capsule for DD2 for portability. I used one of the older style Safe n Sound capsules for DD1 and it was fine for what we needed (borrowed, so I don't still have it). I thought the Unity might be a little lighter and easier to use.
12kgs will probably get us through to about 12 months.
Any feedback? We don't need the pram it can go into as I'm a HAB lover and we already have a stroller.
I borrowed my SIL's SnS unity for DD2. It has dropped ratings in the CREP testing, but no one can tell me why? It is VERY heavy! I have only taken it out of the car a handful of times because I find it so cumbersome to lug around, even when DD was tiny.
I don't have one Jen, but a couple of Mum's that come to the creche I run bring their babies in one. I was soo keen to have one for portability until I had to lift those buggars a few feet. They're heavy man!!
These only had tiny babies in them. Both under 10weeks. I'd hate to feel them with a 12kg wriggler in them.
We had one with DS and I loved it! I think all capsules can be a but heavy, it's part and parcel of it so I wouldn't let that put you off.
What I loved about the unity was it was designed so it could be used as a rocker. It was so good to be able to rock DS to sleep in it easily when we were out for dinner or at friends places.
We used it till he was about 8 months. He was nowhere near the weight limit, but we weren't using it as a capsule anymore because of the weight issue and also he no longer stayed/went to sleep in it.
Best thing was I sold it after we were dine with it for about $50 less than we paid.
I really recommend it. The only reason I got rid of ours was because I decided next time around I really wanted to have a capsule that fitted on my pram.
I have one and i love it. DS is 10 months old and i occasionally still take it out of the car with him asleep, but it is rather heavy now If we were having more babies i would buy the same one again iykwim
I used one with my dd till she was 21 months, though left it in the car from about 16 months, I did use it with the pram it is designed to go with. I loved it.
I'm not too worried about the weight because it's still lighter than the previous one I had for DD. If we can continue to use it as a car seat that would be good though. DP can always lift her out when he's around. I hadn't thought of the rocker action.
I'll bear in mind that using it to carry her probably won't last though.
I have been happy with ours (we got it because it fits our Baby Jogger pram). I know it goes up to 12kgs, but I don't really see how that works. DD is 7.5kgs at the moment and her feet dangle over the end and she doesn't have much head room left. But we make long babies, so maybe it isn't a general issue
The fact that it rocks is great. I think all capsules are heavy. I still manage to lug this one around while holding onto DS with the other hand - so not too bad, really.
I had a Strider capsule before this one and found it hopelessly too narrow and DS was out of it by 3 months. DD is almost 5 months and still looks nice and comfy.
