I just wanted to know, is it tradition for someone else to organise your baby shower for you?
I'm just thinking and planning my 2nd baby shower and just wanted to know if you planned your own, did you get help from someone? Or did you do everything yourself? And if you did have yours organised for you, what did you have to do/provide?
And, if having a 2nd one, what did suggest as gifts?
Sorry for the questions, guess I won't be able to sleep till I got questions out of my head
I think traditionally 2nd baby showers are much more low-key that first ones. I would think that if you do have a 2nd baby shower (which I didn't), then it would be organised by you and I wouldn't expect gifts. My baby shower for DS1 was organised by a few of my friends, but held at my place, as no one else had a suitable house for the number of people (not that it was huge 15 people for afternoon tea).
girlfriends organised the first one ... I had quite a few offers, so I asked one to do food, one to do the games, one decorations, one the cake, etc.
this time around, for #2 - I still want a baby shower, but I'm planning on asking my sister to organise (but I've got all the games and stuff still written down, so she can just pull out the same things )
as for presents, I wouldn't *expect* anyone to bring a gift, but I think a lot of people still will.
My MIL wanted to organise mine for DD....she was flippin' useless! I secretly organised my own games, because I knew hers would be poorly thought out and planned for. I was right. I even had to organise the food that day, because she hadn't! And chairs for all 50 guests! In the end half had to stand, in the heat of February 2010 (scorching!). I also had to handle my own invites (handmade!)
Needless to say, I flat out refused any offers of a 2nd (my two are only 15 months apart anyway....my baby showers wouldve literally been a year apart!)
As far as gifts go......if you want them, then i'd have a little bubble on the invite that had some gift ideas, but maybe say its not necessary, they will anyway. Ppl would appreciate a heads up I think
I never had a first one as I was new to a town and didn't know anyone, so when next bubs came along it was actually my DH who prompted it with a good friend of mine as he knew I wanted one the first time around.
As for gifts as I already had a bubs there was a bit on the invite about having all that we need but if you want to bring a gift how about something for Mum. This was great, I got a massage voucher, chocolates, body products....lotions etc. A really good idea.
