Something for when an animals passes on

One of the downsides of having the lifestyle property, is that we deal with a fair bit of death of an animals

I would like to know if there is a little "something" like a small ritual, something to say etc for when this happens. I suppose there are 2 types that I am after 1) for death from accident, age or illness and 2) for when we take a life for food. Just reallised there is a third, for when a much loved pet passes on (hoping that wont happen for ages)

    Thanks

I found this that would work for a pet, just adjust it to suit you of course

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of [name of animal] and ask for courage to bear it. We bring you our thanks for [name of animal] who lived among us and gave us freely of his/her love. We commit our friend and companion [name of animal] into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

will keep searching for something for the other 2

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for that Kelebek. We have had a few of our better chooks go in the past couple of weeks, so it is nice to say something for them.

    For number 2

Thank the god/desses for their bounty & pour some of the blood back to the earth, maybe even leave an offering of a prime piece of flesh (maybe a bit of the heart).

You could even say something along the lines of "as the circle of life goes, we thank the gods and goddess for their bounty, thank you for the flesh of <insert animal>, we give this blood and this piece of flesh as gratitude of its nourishing powers"

Well, the head and the guts are buried. Is that the same as giving back to the earth/making an offering?

Excellent! Nice that a practical thing can actually be a ritual thing.

We had a Vietnamese lady around one day for one of our chooks, she grew up with her family killing their own food. Her mother had a lovely little saying that she said when she did them, shame she was not able to remember it.
