Did you design your own tattoo and if not...

Who did? I know what I want, well I have an idea but I can't draw I also have no idea where to go. would fly (almost) anywhere in Oz to get it done.

Basically what I want is a piece of bamboo to represent me, a shoot coming off for DS and 2 cherry blossoms for DD's. Possibly another piece of bamboo behind my one to symbolise everything else in my life that supports me...ie my family and dp.

I have a round symbol of the tomoye which i'd like to have at the base of the bamboo or somehow encorporated into it.

I dunno...ideas? I'd like the bamboo to be on my right side between hip and bottom rib but i'd also like it near the tomoye which is right hand side just infront of my hip. DO you think it could start there and curve around up the side...but bamboo is supposed to be straight?

    Agghhh I don't know...

DH had his designed by someone local to us. Well worth it. She worked closely with DH and was happy to change things as she would consult with DH after every 'stage'.
DH paid a deposit fee, and then when she finished the design and he was happy with it he paid the rest. He got it in a full colour design, and a back and white design. She designed it according to the size he wanted and for where he wanted it.

It was a bit pricey, but as I said - well worth it.

    ^^ Yeah that.

I'd get a local tattoo artist to design one for you. I want one as well... DD1's name somehow, but I'm not sure how.

Thanks guys, i'm just a bit worried that because I live in a small town the people here might not be good enough...does that sound snobby? I just think the bamboo will be really hard and well, its for life right so I want it the best it can be...

Do not just go to anyone for a tattoo. Check out some artists online that are well known, email them tell them what you want etc. And do it that way if you can't manage to get in ASAP.

Absolutely 100% agree with this ... I wish someone had have told me that with my first three tatts, I went to the same guy and they are the WORST jobs. Thankfully I found a reputable guy through a friend who is really heavily done and I have the most gorgeous back piece.

I don't think going out of your own town is such a bad thing either

So do you think i'd be able to correspond with an artist? Because i'm not 100% sure what I want...maybe I should get someone else to design it and then someone well known to actually do the tattoo?

Paying that initial artist as well of course...

Yeah thats one way to do it ... OR as Rouge suggested find an online tattooist or artist and have them design it for you. Agood tattooist will also work with you so if you find a place make an appointment to go and talk to them about what you want they should be able to draw something up from what you have said and then make any changes etc.

Ahhh so I can do it online without actually meeting them till the day?? Because I was thinking of going to Sydney or Melb (i;m in QLD now) for the day/weekend when I actually get it done.

My tattooist drew mine, my 2nd one from a design I'd given him (he re-designed it slightly), the 3rd one was done as I designed it, the 4th one was designed by him from discussions we'd had over coffee a few times (he is a friend of my cousin & is an artist).

Find an artist, then take your designs to tattooists and have discussions with them, ask to see the work of the person, even see if you can see the person in action working.

My first is just words, and my second was picked off a poster... But I kinda designed my third (and best ). It's Ianto's footprint in between a rainbow and two clouds, with his name and birthdate in the clouds. The rainbow and clouds are just clipart from Microsoft Word, and I scanned the footprint in to place it. Text boxes over the clouds with the wording, and it was all good! The artist cleaned it up a little, I think he took away black lines between the colours of the rainbow... I love it I'm thinking I'll do Amelia's the same way, but I'm not sure what to use as a theme. Maybe a butterfly resting on some leaves... Would have to fit a hand or footprint in...

I designed my own on my lower back but when the tattoo artist saw it he asked if he could redesign it for me and he did a good job with it. I knew what I wanted but am not an artist at all so what he designed had a lot more balance.

I'm tossing up between a baby foot, stars, or hearts for DD1's name.

I've always given my tattooist the gist of what I want and let him have free reign with how it's all put together. I have the artistic ability of a dead badger (even my stick men look obese) so anything I actually drew would be horrible,

I love everything I've got and am booked in for another full day next week to get more done on my leg (japanese work) and have never been disappointed with anything he's done. He's based just outside Newcastle, NSW if you fancy flying down here to get it done.

I waited 4 months on a waiting list to get into the tattooist I wanted. She is world renowned and will design what you want through emails. She, as far as I know, is still at the shop which is in Melbourne.

I also live in a small town, and I was not leaving the tattoo that represented the memory of my son to just anyone.
