    Steam mop recommendations!

    Hi everyone,

I am looking at purchasing a steam mop with accessories but don't want to buy something that won't last or doesn't work.
If you can recommend one that actually works that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Amanda x

Mine doesn't have accessories, just a straight steam mop, but it's fabulous!

The brand is Bissell, which I'd recommend again and again.

What kind of floor do you have?
Is it a large area or small area?
Do you want to use the high pressure aspect of it or just the steam mop side?
Do you realise they don't remove/extract stains from lounges and carpets?

There are a few things that I take into consideration when a customer walks into my shop asking for a steam mop.

I work in the cleaning industry and I've seen a fair few customers completely unhappy with the purchases they've made through some retailers.

I can recommend a few different steam mops.

Bissell hold roughly 400 to 500ml of water and have a trigger to release the steam. You do not have to wait for the tank to cool off before refilling these machines unless it states its a ceramic tank. They do tend to leave the floor a little bit wetter than mopping especially if you don't change the pads quite regularly. I wouldn't recomend this steam mop for wooden floors or glued lino.

There's a black and Decker smart select which is perfect for lino stone, tile, wood etc. You can select on the front of the steam mop which floor you have and it will adjust the temperature and the amount of steam/ water coming out of the machine. It does not have a ceramic tank so you can fill up straight away.

    Hope that helps.

I have a Pirhana. I LOVE it! It is easier to mop than vacuum and we have a dysone We have lino squares. My instructions don't say you can't use it on laminate floating floors. Would the instructions specify? Can you contact the person who did the floors or were they pre-existing?

Rouge, I'm not sure if the instructions would specify. We've only just laid them ourselves over the weekend. Perhaps I'll give the place we bought them a call and ask.

We bought ours awhile ago, I can't remember the brand, but it was supposedly the best (and most expensive) one that Godfrey's had.

TBH I hate it. It works well... But it takes forever to clean the floor! We have white tiles which get pretty marked up. For it to work well you have to move it pretty slowly, which means it takes ages to clean the floor. Yes, it's pretty easy and you don't work up a sweat, but I get it done in half the time using a traditional mop cos you can work fast with it.

If the floor is sealed and you use a mop that has temperature adjustment on it so it doesn't soak the floor or make the steam too hot, then yes. Id also check with your manufacturer of the floors.

Miss e have you tried putting new clean microfibre pads on it? Changing frequently allows you to keep the pads dry and clean and not push the microscopic bits of dirt around the floor.

We have wooden floating floors, I asked the guy who laid it (owns the company and is a family friend), he said steam mops are ok, but never leave the mop in one spot for too long - i.e. don't leave it sitting for 30 seconds or more while moving furniture, answering the phone or whatever.

I find the Bissell dries on tiles and wooden floors much faster than if I mop the normal way...

We use the ones that came with it, they're machine washable and get a wash after every use

You don't wash them in fabric softner do you? This blocks up the microfibre and doesn't allow the pad to clean or soak up sufficiently

Nope, just the normal washing liquid.

My problem isn't really that it doesn't clean the floor well, it's more than you have to move the mop slowly IYKWIM? It's not like with a normal mop where you go swish, swish, swish and you're done... Definately a first world problem LOL

S&O i have a vax one that i got at bunnings, for a cheap price. and it gets up food and stuff off tiles really easily. if its stubborn i leave the steam mop sit on it for like 10secs then wipe and it comes off. and after i finish i go over it with a wipe broom (you know the ones that have the removable head on them for different surfaces that you can get at coles etc). coz i have glossy tiles, otherwise it leaves water marks. and i just use water and vinegar with it. come up perfectly every time.
