    Choosing a formula - Nan or S26?

    Hello,
Just wondering if either is better as someone told me that they use Nan in maternity hospitals?
    Thanks!!!

My first two kids were fully FF and DD2 is comp fed, primarily BF. I used S26 gold for all of them as this is what my maternity hospital recommended. DD1 did have some issues with constipation but the other two have been fine. I use the 'newborn' formula until 12 months instead of switching to the next one for older bubs. My paediatrician recommended not changing formula as there is no benefit and the follow on formula is more likely to cause constipation. Apparently the newborn formula has more nutrients than the follow-ons as bub's aren't yet on solids, but there is no harm in continuing to use it and it may be beneficial for bub's who aren't big solids eaters.

I got a bit off track, didn't I?? We use S26 gold here.

the nursery used s26 gold with DS when he was born. we bought him home on bf and top ups and were told that s26 was good. they said he didnt really need the gold version. he was on s26 until he turned 1 then went onto cows milk. we had no issues at all with s26. he put on weight fantastically and was never constipated at all. good luck with what ever you decide to choose

I know my brothers were both on S26, which means I probably was too... And that's about the extent of my knowledge about different formulas

ETA: Oh, and the formula given in different hospitals isn't always the same. The hospital I had Ianto in switched every few months. The one Amelia was born in didn't give any, you had to bring your own.

Thanks Nickle I used s26 Gold too for DS and bought it again. I mentioned it to my mum and she was horrified telling me Nan was the newest and greatest! Made me think twice lol

Thanks lovely ladies I think I'll stick with the S26 gold. Never had a problem with my DS either. My plan is to have one FF a day, the 10pmish feed so DH can do it and I can go to bed earlier and have some extra sleep so I can be less of a crazy woman the next day. Crossing fingers that it will work! DH loves the idea so he can have some bonding time too. Thanks again!!

Yes, stick to S26 and change from there if you have to .

My hospital uses Karicare. I always start out with S26 gold if FF and usually end up changing cos i have reflux babies but yeah start with S26

Just read another thread that pointed out that S26 is made in Singapore. I wonder where Nan is made?

NAN is made by Nestlé, if avoiding them is important to you. I tried finding where it's made, but can't :-/ It'd have to be on the tin though...

I'll have a look at the tin next time I'm in the chemist. Doesn't say anything on the nestle website. I'm not anti-nestle at all, but prefer things made in Australia as opposed to overseas. Different standards I guess.

NAN HA is made in Germany.

I used premixed S-26 and then we changed to NAN HA as I was comp feeding, with a newborn, it does seem a bit less filling than S-26.

But much of a muchness really, S-26 is cheaper and has a larger scoop.

Bellamy's Organic is made here I think, but my baby had more chucks on that.

Ds started on s26 gold as that was what the hospital had, but was slightly constipated, and needing water to help from pretty young. Changed him to nan and it was so much better, he didn'tnotice the difference at all and wasnt needing any extra water or anything.

That said if you don't see a need to change then stick to what you've got, some Bubbas don't like the change.
