I have decided I am going to focus on my health and fitness for 10 weeks - starting next week after my engagement party all the way until new years eve.
I've really noticed in the lead up to this party that my food intake isn't very good at all - I don't eat regularly, I don't put any thought into the nutritional value of my food, and I'm all too guilty for being the first to take the easy option (usually take out!). I really don't want my daughter learning these horrible habits from me.
I used to put a lot of effort into my health - I took a multi-vitamin everyday, I planned ahead and never bought food while I was out - I really miss being in control of my health!
So I'm starting my 10 weeks next week and would love some suggestions about what extra things like vitamins and supplements to include to help boost the effects of my healthy food and a regular fitness routine.
If take out is a baddie for you I would suggest doing a pile of prepared meals on a weekend to avoid that one. Load the fridge with fresh fruit and vege. Drink plenty of water and steer clear of flour, and anything with lots of sugar. So keep an eye out on your supposed 'low fat' foods, they are usually loaded with sugar, especially rice crackers and yoghurts. You should aim for less than 10g per serve.
Also avoid juices (fresh fruit with the fibre that requires digestion is much better) and softdrinks.
I also like starting the day with a glass of lemon water to kick off your metabolism.
Thanks ausgirl - I've heard about the lemon and water when you first wake up - can you use lemon juice in a bottle or does it only work with fresh lemons?
Prepared meals is a great idea, even just having my menu plan sorted helps me a lot. I've recently been given the 21 days wonder diet cookbook so I might give it a whirl and get some new recipes under my belt
Maybe a trip to a health food store is in order to get some supplements and stuff - or at least see what they suggest.
I'm starting my health kick tomorrow - after getting my healthy groceries today!
I'm starring with a 15 day detox - to detox I have a bunch of tablets to take at different times and I will be eating basically a raw diet for the whole time - and drinking LOTS of water.
I've moved my treadmill into the lounge and will be on it for an hour each night - just at an easy walking pace but with interval inclines.
I am so looking forward to it! I'll decide what is happening after the 15 days when I'm a little closer - the health food store lady gave me some great ideas though
Hi Ash (I am Ash too ) - I will join you
I was going to go until Christmas but until New Year sounds even better. Then maybe I can have a break for one night before pushing on into the new year!
I am similar to you and a lot of the time find I am not eating and have had to TRY really hard to eat while I have am breastfeeding. I have found getting myself into a food 'routine' has helped although at this stage I have really only concreted breakfast. My intake of water has increased quite easily, but BFing is on my side with that one as it make me super thirsty, especially when I am feeding.
I went through my cupboard on the weekend and looked at all the meals we could make and shopped for them so i have plenty of veges in the fridge and am getting better at defrosting meat from the freezer.
Take away is a sore spot here as well, but because we live with two ferals who conveniently always start cooking the moment my DH walks in the door (he cooks most of the time and I try to prep. I couldn't cook my own dinner while pregnant or i wouldn't eat it!), then follow that up by leaving their crap all over the kitchen and not doing their dishes and cooking seems more hassle than it is worth.
Anyway, DH has some motivation to join me so hopefully between the two of us we can suck it up and move on and get to it.
Thanks for the tip about the lemons Ausgirl!
For now I am going to track what I am eating and doing via MFP on my ipod and then assess where I can be healthier etc.
And get out for a walk everyday. Hard with the can't walk too far or fast toddler but i will do it!
I was the same with cooking when I was pregnant - I still won't let anyone cook red meat in the house lol.
I have a little bunch of recipes that came with my detox program so I've gone through them and chosen a few things I can pre-make so when I'm lazy I can just grab it.
For my first cook-up attempt I'm going to make: breakfast cookies, make up some vegetable kababs to freeze, and make up some healthy dip (I've got hummus or cashew cream recipes) to have with vegies as a snack.
Today is day 1 (sooooo excited!!) I took my measurements and stuff just so I can compare if there is any change and it was horrible - I don't know what those scales have against me lol I'm always so nice to them!!
Sorry Ash I must have missed your most recent post.
I am going good, had a rough week with the inlaws being here whom i can barely tolerate and buried my emotions with junk which was bad but frst time i have done it pretty much since I fell pregnant so trying not to be too hard on myself!
I still lost 1.1kg this week so I can't complain too much.
I have noticed I have been a bit slack on the water intake and I am really struggling to get out of the house and exercise because my DS just makes it a casual stroll. I am going to focus on scheduling time for exercise and telling DH he has to help me with that.
How are you doing?
