Can anybody help me with TERs, GPAs and OP scores?

Sigh of relief - finished the STEPS program a few weeks ago! It's been a hard slog at times but I did it And today, I got my unofficial transcript... but I need help figuring out what it actually means!

Overall, I got a Distinction in Computing, a High Distinction in Language and Learning, and Passes in both Maths and Tertiary Prep Skills (these two were pass/fail courses, although I averaged about 75% in both courses throughout the year). My GPA is 5.250 (which I'm kind of sad about, I was aiming for a 6.5), but I don't know what that equates to as far as a TER or OP score (which I use to determine my 'success' as I'm not familiar with TER, although I know a high one is good). Can anybody estimate what sort of TER I can expect so I can start applying for further study? CQU doesn't have what I want so I'm looking at applying for another university to do distance ed, but I'd like to have an idea of where I stand so I know which programs I have a better chance of getting into.

    TIA!

Your GPA is good (5.25/7). I think if you have a GPA, they go off that rather than your OP score when determining entry into courses. Best of luck with it. What do you want to study?

Ask the university. As a mature age student (over 21), the actual score itself isn't as important as for school-leavers, it mostly depends on the uni's standards for individual courses. So going by the book's cut-offs is less informative, ITMS (depending on the course).

But it sounds like you did really well!

Now I'm certainly no expert here, but it seems odd that a pass/fail course would be used in calculating your GPA? HD=7, D=6, C=5, P=4. So they have arrived at 5.25 by adding 7+6+4+4 and dividing by 4. But with the 4s you couldn't get any higher because it's a p/f course. They have dragged down your GPA, so that doesn't seem very fair. Is it you who has calculated it or the uni?

If nothing else, you know your "real" GPA based on the graded courses was 6.5!! xo

Pass/fail subjects don't contribute towards your GPA, usually.

I thought this also. Good luck for the path you chose to take!

The course I'm applying for has a ranking of 74 and a GPA of 2.75 I think. And another I was looking at I think had ranking of 86 or thereabouts with GPA of 3.5 I think. So based on those I'd think you have a very good chance of getting into most things
